Numer 9, Number 9

I don't take notes at games so I'll just give a few points off the top of my head:
See below for a discussion of the 2 point conversion.
Bennett put himself in a deep hole when he demoted Bartel. Phillips is not ready. Wallis never will be. It's really that simple. Phillips can run. I don't know if he can pass. I remember one that should have been intercepted--a short out pattern. He did throw a nice deep ball to Warren on the right sideline, but it was a little long. I don't remember any other passes. Wallis is Wallis. He had 2 fumbles. Under normal conditions he wouldn't have come back in after the 2nd. The coaches obviously have no confidence in Phillips so Wallis stayed in. Philips red-shirt year has been wasted. Three games are left. We will probably see the same substitution pattern in the last 3 games.
I thought the D played pretty well--maybe their best game since Baylor. They did seem to wear down in the 4th quarter but who can blame them. They were on the field a lot.
The Fresno QB is nothing to write home about. David Carr he is not. The whole Fresno team is unimpressive. They did step it up a notch in the 2nd half which is what decent teams do.
We finally ran an end around in the first quarter. Guess what? It worked for about 15-20 yards. Nice run by Comet who also had another very nice run after a short pass in the 4th quarter.
SMU got off to a 2 point lead after a safety and then by 5 after a short FG.
KK fumbled on the 3. We could have had a 9-0 lead. I don't think we have been up by 9 the entire season.
It was a competitive game. Not a blowout by any means. The D gave me reason for some hope today. The O is a long way from being settled. If Phillips is the QB of the future then the O needs to be structured to his strenghts which are not inconsiderable. He is big, strong, elusive and fast. He can probably pass but I have no numbers to prove it. We probably need to become an option team. Not that stupid wishbone option but an I option like in the good old days with Dickerson, James and Lance.
