Seems like some major happenings going on around the Major Conferences and will be interesting to see all the shake ups......He doesn't mention in the article who they are looking at as they haven't expanded the Pac 10 since 1978 when Arizona and Arizona State came on board. Is it Utah and Brigham Young?.....thoughts?

They seem to fit the athletic/academic profile. Boise or Fresno may be in the discussion but who really knows...

Utah and BYU to the Pac 10, Boise and Fresno to the MWC? Or will MWC turn its noses up at because of 'academics'

I don't really see how they could be in a position to pass over either because of academics. All of those schools were previously associated with Fresno, and they need Boise to boost their football status if they lose two of their three marquee programs to the Pac-10.

I agree with you. However, someone said at one point that's one of the reasons the schools which formed the MWC left the WAC in the first place

Balderdash. If that were the reason the Airport 5 would have taken SMU instead of UNLV or Wyoming.

I agree. And at the time I opined that San Diego St would be wayyyy down the list as well. SDSU isnt UCSD

I stand (semi) corrected. The conversation I was thinking of, ironically enough, was between Calallen and I and involved MWC expansion.

The thinking is that Boise State is a shoe-in, but some MWC schools (read: BYU) have concerns about BSU's academic reputation.

Yeah, that's the thinking from BYU right now. That wasn't the thinking when they had the airport meeting.
Thing is, BYU might not have much of a say in keeping Boise out right now.

Another kitten dies. Expansion threads kill kittens. I personally have no desire to be in the MWC especially without BYU (which is a guaranteed sell out - the Mormon Notre Dame). Right now we are in good shape to weather any realignments. CUSA west if very stable. That means Tulane, SMU, UTEP,UH, Rice, Tulsa are a solid block. Add in USM and UAB and that's a stability, even if ECU, Memphis, UCF, or Marshall go elsewhere.

Colorado and Colorado State make far greater sense.
1. Colorado is more liberal leaning, unlike the extremely conservative state of Utah
2. Colorado's population is almost double that of Utah, which would make for a better television contract
3. BYU will not play games on Sundays
4. Mormon missions often lead to older athletes at the Utah schools, providing an advantage
5. General anti-Mormon sentiment
6. The Pac-10 seriously considered expanding to 12 once before with Colorado and Texas in mind
BYU and Utah have greater odds of joining the Big 12 in the event that Colorado and Missouri depart.
1. BYU was to be added to the Big 12 when it was created, but the demands of Texas politicians to include Baylor and Texas Tech in any expansion led to BYU being left out.
2. BYU and Utah would fit into the Big 12 North without shifting teams out of the Southern division.

Never underestimate the power of the Mormon Mafia and how it has controlled things in whatever conference it has been in. TCU can attest to that regardless of its recent success in football.

Not really sure what you guys are thinking but PAC 10 is going to go after Colorado and Utah FIRST if expansion happens-and quite frankly the rest are all afterthoughts that for one reason or not do not fit.
