RealignmentEverybody has a lot of ideas about realignment. My take is as follows:
Big 10 finally gets Notre Dame Pac 10 gets Texas and Texas A&M Big 12 gets Utah and BYU MWC gets Boise and UTEP CUSA gets La Tech WAC gets Montana and Montana State
Re: RealignmentHere's the major issues with your analysis:
ND ain't going no where Why in the world would aTm and Texas want the travel to Pac10, a lesser conference than B12? Utah and BYU wouldn't leave MWC for the weaker B12 (- aTm and Tx in your world) dominos fall apart after that, especially the Div1aa's joining the WAC... B11 is going to run at CUSE, PITT, MIzzOU, or NEB, though they'd love ND - not going to happen. P10 is going to add UTAH, and make a run at CU, Boise, BYU (who they really don't want) MWC is going to ADD BOISE regardless (unless P10 steals them first), and probably 2 others (Nevada and Fresno/Hawaii/SDSU) to get to 12, but all bets are off if P10 invades. B12 is stable unless they lose CU and/or (NEB/Mizzou), if they lose 1, try ARK first, then TCU to backfill. BEAST is going to steal Memphis and perhaps 2 others to get to 12 (ECU, Marshall) - but the basketball only schools don't like how huge it will become ACC is stable
Re: RealignmentBefore picking schools, decide which conferences move first and what that might dictate the choices. For example, if PAC 10 goes first taking Colorado and Utah, then is this sequence for conferences to make their own moves?
- PAC10, now 12 - MWC - XII - Big Ten - WAC - CUSA Pony Up
Re: RealignmentEither the Big 10 or PAC 10 could start the next round of musical chairs but don't look for it to mean a lot to SMU. Clearly Notre Dame is a great fit and has been long coveted by the Big 10, but it looks like the Big 10 might finally "power play" Notre Dame...they've held that 12th spot open long enough and with the new Big 10 Network, they are ready to host a championship game in football.
PAC 10 obviously doesn't want to be left behind, but geography is more limiting for them. Either way, the Big XII could be vulnerable and could face a challenge if they had to replace a Missou or Colorado. Big XII needs toi circle the wagons and protect what they have, forcing the Big 10 to look to the Big East and PAC 10 to look at MWC/WAC schools Might be some opportunity for TCU, BYU, Utah or even Boise to improve their current situation because football will lead any changes. In all likelihood, changes by the BCS conferences will ultimately mean continued struggle for survival among the Big East, MWC and CUSA
Re: RealignmentThere will be 3 power conferences after the next realignment. They are:
SEC Big 10 Pac 10 The reasons: 1) The SEC already has 12 teams and a new TV contract making them Number 1 in revenue right now. 2) The Big 10 is looking to at least equal the SEC in revenue, but only Notre Dame or Texas would do that for them. 3) The Pac 10 will scramble to keep up with the other two conferences. But the only addition they can make that gives them the revenue is Texas. Also they will start a TV network like the Big 10 to lure Texas. Thus my prediction above which is all driven by money.
Re: RealignmentThere is no way in hell Texas is going to the PAC 10. PERIOD Find one Texas commentator with connections to the university who thinks its even an option. There are none.

Re: RealignmentTexas is the biggest whore there is. They would do anything for more money.
Re: RealignmentUT aint moving to EITHER the Big ten or the Pac ten. They make all dough they can spend right now...and they are not going to distroy rivalries and travel twice as far just to join lesser conferences. That is all just BS talk.
The Big ten is awful - not even Missouri would leave the Big 12 to join the Big ten - and they are the only one that could have a reason.
Re: RealignmentJust wait and see
Re: Realignment
The Pac-10 will only expand if it INCREASES revenue and Boise won't do that. They won't even be considered.
Considering Vanderbilt makes more from the SEC than UT does from the Big 12, why wouldn't they explore other options?
Did you see the quote from Missouri's governor? Are you REALLY sure about that?
Re: Realignment[quote="Charleston Pony"]Either the Big 10 or PAC 10 could start the next round of musical chairs but don't look for it to mean a lot to SMU. Big 10 is still holding a grudge against ND based on their declination of membership offer 11 years ago. JoPa at Penn State has been quoted publically that ND was given their shot and has been adamant that they should not be considered again. Also, ND is Big East for the rest of their sports program and this has worked out well for them particularly in basketball. Look for Big 10/11 to grab Pitt and for the Big East to fill that vacancy with ECU. Next step will be for C-USA to replace ECU. I do not see PAC 10 making any moves.
Re: RealignmentFollow the money. Remember the goal of the Big 10 and the Pac 10 is to keep up with the SEC in revenue. They won't do it just for fun. It has to pay off.
Re: Realignment
You aren't serious are you? <Mizzo would leave for Big 10 yesterday if they asked... The $ differnce is huge, and top to bottom it is vastly better than big 12...
Re: RealignmentBoise to the Mountain West
Texas to the Pac 10 Utah to the Pac 10 Pitt to the Big 10 Colorado State to the Big 12. TCU to the Big East Yes, Texas is going to flip conferences. Their ego is too big for the Big 12. Very soon, the SEC will jump into the Texas lottery and offer Both Texas and A&M to the SEC. The Big 12 doesn't want TCU and will only take them if they have to replace two teams (might happen if Colorado and or TAMU jump but I'm guessing the Pac 10 takes Utah over Colorado). I'm guessing that the Big 1 adds Colorado State or Memphis, although TCU has better athletics. BYU isn't going anywhere. The bible beaters that run that school prefer a low profile athletic program. The big east is a basket case. Too big for basketball, but not big enough for football. They are going to have to reorganize. If Pitt flips to the Big 10, I see the Big east scrambling to put a football conference together. West Virginia, Syracuse, UConn, Cincinatti, S. Florida, Louisville, Rutgers. They need a credible football team to keep BCS AQ status (which they might loose anyway). They add TCU and Houston. Not sure if TCU takes the Big East's offer. The Mountain West plus Boise, minus Utah is an OK leauge. My guess is they will go because BYU might jump (although I don't think they will).
Re: Realignment
The extra travel cost would be very high for Texas in the new conferences, all sports not just football must play in the new conference . Sent from my KOREAN knockoff using Tapdance 5
