4. SMU: Coach June Jones likes working with young players and he’ll have a whole host of them this spring. However, unlike last year, Jones has a quality season on which to build and a lot of young experience with which to build it. The quarterback battle should be interesting with Kyle Padron, New Mexico State transfer J.J. McDermott, and incoming freshman Stephen Kaiser, and they need to find a new starting running back, but overall this team should be looking toward a nine or 10-win season.

Nice. I'd be happy if we just matched the 8 wins from 2009. I was thinking it'd take another year or two to challenge for 10 wins, but I'd be happy to speed the process up a bit.

Call it competition if you want but I want to see Padron under center. Not another switch at QB after a successful season.
Lets build upon a successful season. Kaiser needs to sit on the bench and redshirt.

How about we go through the off-season, spring training, summer workouts and two-a-days? Maybe see who is academically ineligible. Why redshirt anyone if they can help us win now. What if the redshirt had not been removed from Padron last year? Play the best who are taking care of business on and off the field.

9 or 10 wins will be very difficult with our tough non-conference schedule: at Tech, TC-who?, Wash St. and at Navy. I think 2-2 in those first 4 would be great.......but I think 1-3 is likely. We are getting there but we're just not at Tech's and TCU's level yet.

but isn't it crazy how much things have changed in a year?? last year at this time if someone told me we would be rated as the 4th best non-BCS school in one year I would've LMAO and bought them some coffee to sober up. what JJ has done is truely amazing. it is finally fun to be an SMU fan - now if we can get bball headed in the right direction........

That is so premature of a ranking. I wouldn't place that much stock in that article as the non-conference schedule is too daunting.
We would be lucky to be 2-2.......1-3 is likely.

While we do not have the thoroughbreds to stay on the field with TTech and TCU, it is good publicity for the next few months while recruiting. Because the first game against TTech will give everyone a reality check be it good or not so good.

I don't know about the rest of ya'll but I plan to be in Lubbock to witness the reality check for BOTH schools! Already have my hotel reservations. Just waiting to buy my tickets now. How about the rest of ya'll?

There is lttle doubt that SMU will be over-matched on the field at TTech; however that does not mean that a win is out of the question. I think that the Tuberville hire was terrible.
