Wallis/PhillipsBennett is supposed to decide between Phillips and Wallis today. Has to go with Phillips but I won't be surprised if he goes with Wallis.
Re: Wallis/PhillipsI don't care who starts, but Phillips needs to play a majority of the ballgame. It seems so obvious from a distance, granted we don't know what goes on in practice and in the huddle.
Re: Wallis/PhillipsI have the impression that he is going to stop going with 2 QBs. The guy that starts may go the whole way.
Re: Wallis/PhillipsCrimminy, it is a no brainer. I'd rather lose by 50 with Phillips then lose by 20 with Wallis. Phillips threw the ball in high school, he should be able to do it in college. Hell, screw the offense, send Phillips out there in the huddle and let him draw up pass patterns in the dirt, or the turf, or the grass, or the real grass, or whatever you call that stuff. It works in intramural football. I'm sure Bartel could tell you all about that.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Re: Wallis/PhillipsIs Bennett on The Ticket today?
Re: Wallis/PhillipsEarly QB production stats are in Wallis's favor. Phillips is running twice as much and only has a slight 1 yd per/carry edge. Wallis is averaging 12 yds. per completeion to Phillips 8. I think coach will do the same as last week with these two. Wallis was concerned about competing with Phillips at first but he now knows that he is the better QB at this point. Ya'll gotta remember Wallis got his skins competing at the HS 4A d1 level. That's tougher than the lower levels. It takes a while for lower level players to get up to speed if they can. Keep on searching.
Re: Wallis/PhillipsI'm in Dooby's camp on this one. I don't care what the stats show, every snap taken by Wallis is a wasted snap. No offense to the kid, but it is painful to watch him play unless you like watching endless sacks and fumbles.
When Phillips is in there you feel like we are moving forward with the program. Like Dooby, I would rather see Phillips in there making twice the number of mistakes that Tate might make (and I don't think that would be the case). Anybody who has seen Phillips play in person knows what kind of an athlete he is. He needs to be getting the experience that has already been paid for by burning his redshirt. [ 11-03-2003, 09:48 AM: Message edited by: Diehard Pony ]
Re: Wallis/PhillipsWe are a much better team under phillps - if you have spent the year on him - play him. But if you aren't going to call plays that have a shot at being successful then don't risk him - in other words - let him roll out every play - and THROW. If they ain't there - RUN.
Re: Wallis/PhillipsI think that would be the perfect use of Phillips (i.e., roll and pass / run), and it would not seem to be too difficult for Phillips to handle. Mix in QB draws with KK up the middle. Not only would forward progress improve, sacks would be drastically reduced. [ 11-03-2003, 09:17 PM: Message edited by: Diehard Pony ]
