SMU Legends!

Postby Earl » Fri Feb 19, 2010 7:06 pm

SMU has had a number of phenomenal players in the past, but in my opinion "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan ranks supreme. Any thoughts or reflections on the great Hacksaw?

You're not a "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan fan? I have some treasured memories watching the great Duggan perform in the SWC. One game in particular stands out to me, the Rice game in 1974. Dugann beat the entire starting offense and cheerleaders to death with a 2x4.

there was some SFA fan that came on before the season started that had the audacity to mock the great Hacksaw-I actually saw him play too and he was one of our greatest Offensive Lineman of that era. OK I'll bite-compare and contrast SMU greats Jim "Hacksaw" Duggan with Jack "Fritz 'the Iron Claw'Von Erich" Adtkinson. Love the "Iron Claw"

Ofcourse I was joking about the 2x4 incident, but he did have some monster games. He was a team captain as I remember. Correct me if i'm wrong....

That is something you never have to worry about on this board. If you're wrong, someone (probably about 10 someones) will let you know.

You are wrong! The Rice cheerleaders beat our offensive line to death with 2 or 4 pom poms!

In 1974, Arthur Wittington single handedly beat Rice with a kickoff return with no time left on the clock.

I always laugh at his photos because at SMU he had a nerdy Clark Kent look including big ole horn-rimmed glasses in team photo.
