WHY BEGRUDGE TCU??

They have every right to go where they think is best, just as we do when we announce we are leaving the WAC.

I really do think it is not in their BEST interests in going to the MWC.

But, they probably forsee an opening to take the BCS bid FROM the Big East if the MWC were to go to 12-teams and add BSU/FSU and perhaps someone else...that would be a decent conference and worthy of BCS consideration over the new Big East.

I understand that...but, it might not happen, and the MWC may get raided in the end by the PAC10, so there are many risks. Not to mention that the big Texas schools, and SMU as well, will use this against TCU in recruiting. Not the conference affiliation, but the fact that they are playing in the Western Time zones (and Mountain) versus the Central zone.

sure, TCU can use the affiliation with the MWC against SMU's CUSA, but, SMU can and will use it against them (the travel issue, parents seeing you play, and local tv coverage).

You can BET that aTm, UT, and OSU/Tech will use it as well...why go out of state (TCU) when you can stay in state (Big12) for the same BCS consideration?

Their coaches don't want it because they know the demands of travel out west.

If they can make more money going to the MWC, good for them...

... I think it is interesting that the only speculation of TCU going to the Mountain West has come out of the Metroplex. Not a single Rocky Mountain paper or national beat writer has touched the story. The national publications that have run the story today are all citing the Dallas Morning News story from yesterday.

TCU may very well get an invite, but that invite might not come until next year. When the MWC formally announced it would explore expansion options (Sept '03), it also announced that no invitations would be handed out until after the official NCAA vote on football championship games (April '04).

To its credit, the MWC has been very careful through this entire shifting, and I would expect the due diligence process to be thorough. Network options, bowl game ratings and revenue (Ft Worth v. Humanitarian v. Hawaii), local market ratings, travel variables (distance, how many fans they bring into road markets, % of vacancy at home games), and partnership opportunities will all weigh heavy, and cannot be analyzed until January at the earliest.

On that note, it will be interesting to see the numbers for Wednesday’s game. Last Thursday, Boise State v. BYU had a composite 1.6; 1.9 in the first half (50-12 blowout).

from ESPN:

"This is the conference that hurt the power ratings for its signature sport by bringing in TCU and East Carolina to help upgrade football to, um, mediocre."

Ouch. Usin' the whole fist, Doc?

According to this, it doesn't look like TCU is getting a MWC invite this week or the next. Looks like MWC is really gong to take its sweet time. I interpret that as a sign that TCU leaving is not the sure bet people think it is.

I don't think we'll leave when it comes down to it. From what I've heard, it sounds like TCU has told the MWC that "if you want us, it better be a deal we can't say no to." That means TCU bringing a travel partner (probably UH), guarantees about further expansion (probably Fresno and Boise) to further bolster the conference and allow for a championship game, a very small entrance fee and a guarantee that none of our games will start after 7:00 central time. I doubt that will be approved by the Mountain West though. Without those guarantees, there are too many unknowns and negatives about the MWC for TCU to make the move. Some rumors even go so far as to say that the MWC unofficially invited TCU, and that TCU gave them a list of stipulations, and that the MWC wouldn't approve them all.
