DALLAS (SMU) - ESPN has selected SMU's 2010 season opener at Texas Tech to air on national TV, the network announced today. To accommodate the broadcast, SMU and Tech have agreed to move the game to Sunday, Sept. 5, with a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff. In addition to airing on ESPN, the game will also be broadcast online at ESPN360.com.

ESPN, The Worldwide Leader in Sports, reaches over 99 million homes, and ESPN360.com is distributed to more than 50 million homes.

The game will mark SMU's second straight ESPN appearance, as the Mustangs routed Nevada, 45-10, in the ESPN-broadcast Sheraton Hawaii Bowl in its 2009 season finale.

Conference USA is finalizing league schedules and SMU hopes to release the remainder of its 2010 slate later this week.

Let's be thankful this is not a home game. I can't imagine the 'vard on a Sunday morning.

I'm thinking the band, peruna and cheer squads might attend since it's on national TV.

This is awesome news! The more exposure, the better, especially if ESPN picks up the TCU game as well.

unless we get blown out twice. i doubt we will, but there's always that chance. it's the risk you run by scheduling these kind of ooc games.

OK, I forget, is TCU game 2 or three. Do we see much impact on game 2 due to this reschedule?

It ought to be a great time. There will be a lot of excitement over Tuberville's debut.

Do you guys commonly take Peruna to road games? Most conferences (Big 12 inlcuded) prohibit visiting teams from bringing live mascots into the stadium without the home team's permission. Do you typically take Peruna to mingle with the travelling SMU alums?

In the past we have taken Peruna to some away games, but now we have the Official Mascot (Peruna) and the unofficial T. Boone Pickens Trophy Wife -June Jones lovin'- broken gelding Mustangs with riders to also come to games. So, we don't know if one or all three will show up at Tech. Is Tech's horse still female? I remember when Peruna tried to ummm show her some love. Funniest mascot moment ever.

So I guess the SMU TCU game being moved to Friday for ESPN the next week is off, or maybe was just a baseless rumor all of the time? Hard to believe ESPN would show us on back to back weeks, also a Sunday - Friday turnaround would be brutal!

Wonder if the TCU/SMU game that was rumored for Sept 10 on ESPN will still happen now? The WAC ESPN schedule came out and that spot is still open. So, it's going to be a CUSA telecast. A Sun/Fri turnaround is the same as a Sat/Thurs turnaround.
