Tix PricesWell, I have to commend SMU Marketing/Athletics on a smart play as it pertains to increasing revenues.
They seem to know their customers well and rather than waste spend on filling up the stadium, they can go after the loyal hearts of so many who wish to hold onto their great seats. They prey on the dreams of aspirations of those who hold outside hope that one day they will hold premier seating to a BCS SMU squad or a Ford Stadium that will host the likes of a Texas or Miami..... I'm sure the economics make sense and they will end us bringing in a lot more revenue than those few fans they alienate with the major price increase. I'm sure ticket prices will work a lot like property taxes going forward. They will increase when SMU has a good to great season and stay the same when SMU has a below average season. My only request from SMU would be to provide transparency to their plan of raising prices in the future so folks not only know the current investment, but also the go forward investment in the future. At least people know what their signing up for and they can make an informed decision now as opposed to renewing this season only to find out their ticket prices/donations double again. I don't mind paying the money, just let me know what I should expect in the future......oh, and keep my number off the donation list from SMU students who call late at night when I have already donated thousands....that is a little rude.

Interrupting your Matlock re-runs?
Re: Tix PricesI agree with you. But my problem with it is that the economics DON'T make sense to me.
After one winning season, now we are expected to pay as if we graduated from Texas, Florida, USC or Oklahoma. Well the truth is that SMU is still SMU. That means that while we are better than in the Mike Cavan or Phil Bennett days, SMU football is not a consistent or guaranteed 8 game winner and bow invitee. If we get there thats great. But until we win that consistently, I will NOT support this plan. Actually thats what I told the young SMU student who called me at 8:17PM. SMU Grad 1996 - Worked in SMU athletic recruiting office under Forrest Gregg and Bill Weidner from 1992-1997.
Re: Tix PricesYou will realize the monetary value of your SMU football tickets when you can sell them for face value or MORE on stub hub. It is the tell tale heart beat for what others are willing to pay out side of the SMU family.
I tried to sell a few last year when I was abroad and there was not a market for them, not even for less than what I paid. So I gave them away. I had season tickets at UCF when they opened the new stadium; they were not really all that great of seats. I could sell them for $70.00 per ticket. The honest truth is. There in no way in hell you are going to get $100.00 per seat for any game at ford next year. So the bottom line is your investing in SMU athletics for love. I do know the market, and I will say this, I have sold A&M fans my basketball tickets on stub hub for $100.00 per seat. Now put that in your pipe and smoke it JJ. Who would have thought that BB tickets were worth more that FB tickets.
Re: Tix PricesSo you are one of the dudes responsible for allowing those farmers to sit in amongst us........Thanks a bunch............
Re: Tix Prices
O come on man everyone was guilty! At least I made them pay. And I gave the money back to SMU fans in the form of a bar tab in Marshall. What was it RVG $400.00? I'm selling them next year too ha ha ha.
Re: Tix PricesBring back OTP
Re: Tix Prices
yep. I think next year we need to keep better track of the alcohol we buy. It's tough justifying Huntington, WV as a 'business expense'.
Re: Tix PricesTicket prices didn't increase this season.
Re: Tix Prices
That is the same insulting comment made in the mailer. Yes, while ticket prices did not technically increase the donation amount more than doubled. Like I should be so thankful that I get the tax benefit from the massive donation increase.......
Re: Tix Prices
Actually I think the fact that ticket prices didn't go up is a good point. You don't have to donate, and you can see a better product for the same price...
Re: Tix PricesSeriously, can we combine all the priority ticket cost increase complaints into a single thread?
Or you can just move over to section 124 with me and a lot of my friends and avoid paying a mandatory donation altogether (even though I donate to the Mustang Club voluntarily). Derail the Frogs!
Re: Tix Prices
I have a solution. I am going to fast for 2 days before game day and then hit the Mustang Club tent and eat my donation increase in food. I might bring a couple of "Bigs" with me as my guest and pick up a couple of teenage boys to tag along. Yeah, that'll teach them to increase my contributions!!! Just send 'da money.
Re: Tix Prices
Please explain how I can keep my current seats without donating? If that is a real possibility, I woud love to hear how it works. Thanks.
Re: Tix Prices
Think what they are referring to is the east side seats. You can buy season tickets with no donation in the home sections on the east side (which roughly stretch from 25 to 25 so no bad seats over there)
