SMU vs. Texas

the ESPN schedule leading off the season with Rice-Texas got me to wondering, will SMU ever play Texas again in a revenue sport? Never again might be a bit strong but our paths seem to be miles apart and not converging in any way. Don't see it happening in football anytime soon and not really in basketball either.

I had someone come in the office so I had to reply quickly. Maybe someday in basketball but for football they already have Rice which gets them Houston and they already have Dallas covered. Just my inept observation but they may like playing out of state to get exposure to west and east coasts.,

they'd probably play us if we went to Austin and that's it. They'd see us as filling the ULaLa or Ark St slot in their schedule

I think UT is done with us unless they absolutely have to fill a home non-conf. slot in September. I agree with the statements above about why Rice is the exception. Other than Rice, UT has shown essentially no interest in playing any other old SWC team that didn't make the Big-12 (except Arkansas). They gave TCU a one-game deal a few years ago and the Frogs gave them a scare at home. I don't think UT will repeat that near-miss. They want nothing to do with TCU. If we continue to improve, I think that lessens the chances of us ever playing UT again even more (if that's possible).

OU game takes care of their DFW recruiting visit every year, so I can't imagine them wanting to schedule us

Houston had a series with UT going on until Houston's Athletic Department really messed up the last game that UT played vs. Houston in Houston...those temporary bleachers that were unsafe and set up by Houston against several recommendations were such a mess! Rice is the beneficiary from Houston's mistake, but it is not correct to say that Houston did not have their chance.

They had a series with UNT a few years ago. I think all of those games were in Mackworld down in Austin.

Fact is I have been told by an SMU official that UT wanted to play us in Austin a few years ago, but would not agree to a home & home and play us at Ford. You can check on this fact with SMU athletic officials.

UT will not play a game in Ford Stadium during any of our lifetimes.

It had nothing to do with the bleachers. UT wanted the game to be played at Reliant and UH declined. UT said that unless the game were played at Reliant that they would never play them again. Rice on the other hand willingly accepts to play them at Reliant. If SMU wants to play UT we would have to play them in Austin and at Jerryworld.

I wonder if they'd do a home-and-home with our "home" game being at Jerryworld?
