At Monday's practice

I got there late. But a couple of notes that I don't think were in Kate's DMN blog"
• As secondary coach Derrick Odum said, Ryan Smith got the first-team snaps at strong safety. He and Chris Banjo were flanked by Sterling Moore and J.R. McConico. Jay Scott got the second-team snaps at strong safety.
• Among the walking wounded who were observing after offseason surgery: linebacker Pete Fleps (shoulder), offensive tackle J.T. Brooks (knee), center Bryce Tennison (shoulder and foot), guard Jordan Free (shoulder), linebacker E.J. Drewery (shoulder) and defensive end Kevin Grenier (shoulder).
• First-team snaps at nose tackle went to Jimmy Chase, between defensive ends Taylor Thompson and Marquis Frazier. Heralded freshman Mike O'Guin worked with the second team.
• Backup nose tackle Jesse Andrew wasn't dressed — I'll try to find out why not tomorrow.
• Patrick Fleming will be used in a variety of roles, including some combination of wide receiver, tight end, defensive end and special teams.
