A favor to ask for Wednesday

On smumustangs.com they have that Craig James will be on hand Wednesday to "celebrate" SMU's joining C-USA.

I wish I could attend, but can't.

So, if somebody is attending, would somebody please ask him just why he wants to "celebrate" a move to a non-BCS conference, after he's spent the whole season berating non-BCS conferences and schools across the board all season long?!
And SMU fans might want to ask him why he's even berated his alma mater in the Houston Chronicle and on radio across the country.

It just seems odd that now he wants to be "celebrating" when all he's done is "berate." :hmm:

You know, I try not to agree with froggies whenever possible ( ), but you're right on with these comments. I've heard and read James' negative comments on the air and in print. He'd damn-well better give equal time and laud the move on air to give his school a little much-needed boost.

Growing up, I used to be a real big fan of the Pony Express but I doubt Craig is going to be there out of the kindness of his heart. I'm sure he's getting some sort of "appearance fee" and with that appearance fee, I am sure that he's going have to say some nice things about SMU going into C-USA despite the fact his obvious opions.

I don't always agree with what James says, but you guys are wrong. He regularly has mentioned "his Ponies" in exchanges on national tv. He's embarrassed, like most of us are at our record. Maybe he is trying to put pressure on SMU to improve.

As for his BCS position, I think he is just giving his honest opinion when he says that the top non-BCS teams are not better football teams than the 2nd or 3rd place teams in the Big 12 or Pac 10. They're just not. If and until there is an expanded playoff system of 16 teams, the issue is very debatable and I don't expect him to be the non-BCS poster boy.

I seriously doubt that Bennett, Turner and the rest of the Mustang Club would want to hear Craig say what he really felt about the SMU program. Be careful you might get what you asked for. I think he is just recognizing the realities of SMU's situation based on their Model-he thinks a Conference of Low Expectations is all SMU is really up to.
