DALLAS (SMU) - A pair of exciting events designed to honor the past and celebrate the present of SMU Football have been scheduled for the weekend of April 23-24. The second-annual Jerry LeVias Lettermen Golf Classic and a Mustang Football Celebration have been set for Friday, April 23, and Saturday, April 24, respectively.
The weekend will kick off with the Golf Classic, which will be held at The Golf Club of Dallas. SMU Head Coach June Jones, members of his staff and former Mustang Football legends will host the event, which will start with a breakfast at 9 a.m. The tourney itself will then tee off at 11 a.m. At the conclusion of the rounds, an Awards Party & Auction will take place at 4:30 p.m.
This will make the second year the tournament has been named in LeVias' honor. LeVias' contributions to SMU, the country and the game of football are significant. In addition to being the first African-American scholarship player in the Southwest Conference, he was recognized as an All-American, academically and athletically, and went on to have an impressive NFL career.

The following night, SMU will host its Mustang Football Celebration at The Intercontinental Hotel to recognize the achievements of the 2009 Mustang Football team. The 2009 squad posted the nation's largest turnaround (+7 wins) and won the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl Championship and a Conference USA Western Division Co-Championship.
During the event, SMU will present team members with Sheraton Hawaii Bowl Championship Rings and will recognize the Offensive, Defensive and Special Teams MVPs for the season. Coach Jones will also announce which player will wear jersey number "23" during the 2010 season to honor LeVias.
