Bennett's threat

Point is, SMU doesn't need to relieve their travel pain by being a good little rival and scheduling them.

Hopefully, no one in CUSA will either, so TCU can be stuck playing only out of state games.

I'm right there with Coach on this - I won't miss TCU. Win, lose - doesn't matter. I just don't like them or the school, or that stadium or that stupid Zamboni thing, or .... let's just say if I never hear that silly horn again, it will be too soon.

Apparantly you and your coach operate on a double standard. Its perfectly OK for SMU to bail on the WAC because it seems like a positive move for your program. Its not OK for TCU to explore that option if we believe it is a positive move for ours?????

Cry me a river Bennett...

The Frogs have left twice from the conference we were in. So screw 'em. SMU needs rivalries WITHIN their conference. We will take someone close by in the conference as our rival and dump TCU. We just increased their travel costs and denied their recruits the opportunity to play another game in texas. Sucks for them. Have fun encouraging recruits to play 0 local road games and games in Utah. There are a lot of good recruits out in New Mexico, have at them ;) . In the meantime, we will recruit the Houston area and east texas with our great contacts and promises to play in Houston once a year, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Sounds to me like cutting TCU off as much as possible is a pretty darn good idea.

Honestly, I think not playing TCU is a bad idea. We need the close rivalry as much as they do. I dislike the school and everything associated with it, but we should not give up 85 years of competition because we don't get everything our way. If we drop them, that leaves Rice as our best historical rivalry. Yuck! And UNT, SFA, SHSU, TSU, etc. will still schedule them even if we won't. TCU wouldn't hesitate to put a I-AA powderpuff on their schedule in a pinch. We need to play TCU, and not just in football.

Instead of telling me who you don't want to play, why don't you Mr B try winning a game any game.

I'm starting to believe that our coach is such a hothead that he flys off the handle and says stuff that others might just pass on.

Does anuone really believe that he has prepared our freshman QB enough to throw him into a game. But he has, and the kid can run really well, but can't be ready to pass yet, based on the number of attempts he's made while in the game.

So I love a guy who might not win any games this year, making demands about who we play or don't play

You have to earn that right coach

Bennett is a stupid man if that is how he feels. We need to play TCU every year in all sports. Who cares what conference they are in? A good local rivalry stirs up interest and attendance. We need for this to be an intense rivalry to stir up interest among local recruits. Should we dump Baylor, Texas Tech, OSU and others from the schedule because they took a better opportunity than C-USA? I think that would be suicide. I welcome a rivalry with TCU regardless of their stadium, horn, uniforms or whatever other objections our fans might have toward them.

So Topper, I guess that means we should be playing North Texas as often as possible.

We have scheduled UNT before, and will probably again sometime in the future.

Topper and others - you are missing the point. Bennett does want to play TCU every year, we all do. But this is about gaining a net advantage plain and simple. Thats what they are trying to do by going MWC. We go head to head with TCU for alot of players. If we can enhance the negative for them of going MWC by giving them one less local game that fans and parents can travel too, that might help us more in recruiting than it would to play them instead of a Baylor, or UNT or whomever. In the end, I think its a strategy worth considering, but not necessarily one I would use for the very reason that Baylor will probably play them if we don't. Another factor that might sway my decision is whether Houston goes to the MWC with them or not.

I wouldn't worry about it. TCU may or may not go. Houston is going nowhere. It would be a bad deal for TCU to leave. It would be disastrous for Houston, who has to be even more budget-conscious.
