• Safety Ryan Smith is on crutches after arthroscopic surgery last week on his left knee. The procedure was performed to clean out scar tissue that Smith said has bothered him for about a year, bothered him the most when he tried to lift large amounts of weight and might have contributed to a couple of hamstring pulls he suffered last season. Smith said he can place a little weight on his left leg now, and expects to be off crutches by the end of the week. He also said he expects to be back to full health and ready to run before the Ponies convene for their optional conditioning workouts over the summer.
• Right tackle J.T. Brooks has been cleared to resume full workouts after having surgery to clean out his left knee and help an injured tendon heal more quickly. Brooks has been doing conditioning work while awaiting medical clearance, and said that last week his weight dropped into the 280s "for the first time since sophomore year of high school."
• Linebacker E.J. Drewery, who missed spring workouts after offseason shoulder surgery, was cleared Monday to resume working out. Drewery said he hasn't been lifting weights because of the injury, and is eager to get back into the weight room to start regaining strength. He also reported his weight is now up to 220 pounds.
