He's talking about the movement by some people in the Sr. Class to replace Peruna with a Horse and Rider ala Texas Tech. Just some really stupid idea by a bunch of smarmy kids who think they know what's best for spirit at SMU. Yes, let's solve our losing ways with replacing one tradition that makes us unique with something that makes us look like everyone else. I suppose it will make the masses cheer and help the football team. What's next? I wouldn't be surprised if we get one of those stupid siren and smoke machines and painted it like a horse, like that stupid contraption that TCU has at their games. Heck, we added the Mustang Maniac and Mighty Mustang Blunder, I mean Thunder and look how much it's made a positive impact on spirit. Yes, the full size horse and rider will cure those losing woes.

I think we should have a bunch of wild [deleted] mustangs in a pen as mascots, maybe 40 of 'em. Everytime we score, let them ride wild all over the place, have some freshman band members led by Diamond M corral them. She could call them back to the pen in a similar manner as she yells at the hoops games. All of us over here at the Beta House think it might work.X-Cool.

That'll work. Stampede the whole herd of them right through the visiting team bench.

Actually, what would be really cool, is A). Keep the traditional Culwell & Son Peruna for ALL decent conference games and significant non conference games (OU, UT, etc.), if the game is a "yawner", ie: La Tech, NTSU let B). Diamond M run around the field screaming and yelling for no apparent reason, should be entertaining. Long Live Doak. If they saddle Peruna, or get a big Horse and put it in a corral, I'm outta here. For every LSU Tiger pacing in his cage, there is a pig called Big Red laying in his cage. Peruna running onto the field is one of only a handful of mascots that schools have that do that. BEVO stands there like a statue eating hay. But Peruna and Ralphie (the Colorado Buffalo) actually lead their teams onto the field. What's more moving than that. Maybe winning a game. But that too shall come.

Rake this numbskull idea up to the legacy of losing. Students don't show up to games and we constantly lose and rarely score. So the Mustang loses its significance.

Now some bubble headed bleach blonde type whose 15 minutes is being a homecoming queen decides to reinvent the wheel by replacing it with squares.

Losing is intolerable but ditsy ideas like this are insufferable.

who wants to see a Stallion running around the field. Keep Peruna-Expel the Idiot. He needs to transfer to TCU and do something about them Horney Toads. But I do long for the day when Peruna played a bigger part of the festivities by running across the field after every score-perhaps there is some way Peruna's role could be highlighted in some way.

I know that any ideas on how to make him a bigger part of the game are more than welcome, you can share them with Judith Banes, the new cheer coach, or post them here and I will try to share them with those mentioned above.

Hey, wtf kinda crap is this. I mean, why can't Colorado get a REAL buffalo. All they have now is that ripoff embarassment American Bison. SMU should not lower itself by drawing comparison to such a spirit-less school as Colorado.

Sometimes I think the students wouldn't even notice if we had Bevo down there on the field, they just love to [deleted] about stuff.

PS I think this is true that Ralphie is actually an American Bison. *GASP*

I went down to Ole Miss for the Texas Tech game and apparently the Ole Miss administration decided that they were going to replace old Colonel Reb with a new younger, more vital mascot. It caused an uproar. When we were there, pretty much everyone we saw had a sticker on their shirt that said "Colonel Reb is MY Mascot!"

I could get someone to print up a bunch of stickers that say "Peruna is MY Mascot!" Would y'all wear them, or would it be a wasted effort? Might I also suggest (Spaz or Mustang Sally?) that someone make a big sign to hang opposite the student section that says the same thing?

I'd wear one, and put one on the back of my truck, and my fiance's car, and all the office work trucks, and random cars in the SMU parking lot, mall parking lots, etc. Everywhere I went I'd put one up.
