Got an update from Mount Enterprise, Texas running back Kevin Pope, who will be a freshman at SMU in the fall.

Pope's senior season was cut short when he tore the ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) and LCL (lateral collateral ligament) in his left knee. After having the knee surgically repaired, he rehabbed the knee until he eventually was cleared to run track for his school this spring.

"I'm doing really well," Pope said. "Everything is good with the knee — no pain at all when I cut and jump."

Pope said he ran well with the track team, but consciously didn't push it too hard.

"I ran track, but not any individual (events)," he said. "But I did run a 4.6 (in the) 40, which is good because I still have basically three months of training left."

Pope said he is working hard to get read for the Ponies' optional workouts; he plans to arrive July 1.

"I lift three days a week, and I run every day." Pope said. "I run a mile, and right afterward, I do sprinting on the field."

great update PP. We are really counting on him and Fields to be as advertised and pick up the slack left from Shawnbrey. Glad to hear pope is back in action so soon. I get the impression he has worked real hard with his rehab.

Sounds like he is working hard — really hard.
I wonder if this is one of those deals where the injury really takes a year AFTER returning to the field before he has all of his quickness and explosiveness back. Sure hope not.
Thanks for the update, PP.
