The key excerpt: "I've thought about replacements, sure," said Beebe. When asked if those possible replacement schools might be in Texas, Beebe said, "I'm not sure how any other institutions in the states we already have schools would add. I think we've captured the markets in those states."

that my friends is some brutal honesty. He must be feeling under siege, because normally a commish would give a very non-committal, politically correct, non-answer. In this case, the pressure is getting him i bet.

With BYU and Utah being prime candidates for conferences wanting to expand, it makes one wonder what the future holds for the MWC.
Will the MWC simply add Boise State and other schools so as to continue its BCS dreams? TCU appears to have few options.

Translation: Sorry TCU, but Texas doesn't want to legitimize your program. They like their recruiting advantage that they have right now.

I agree-its hard to tell when the reporter may be slanting the discussion but the end of the article makes it appear that Missouri and Nebraska to Big 10 is a foregone conclusion and Big 12 may be interested in making a defensive move. Example-kick Nebraska and Missouri to the curb and take UTAH and BYU RIGHT NOW. I've always felt that the PAC 10 couldn't afford to sit on its [deleted] long or the Big 12 would move against the PAC 10's interest. Big 12 WOULD SURVIVE in that case.

And in all likelihood Colorado will leave, joining the Pac-10 with Utah.
If no Texas schools are candidates, who will the Big 12 add? BYU, CSU, and Air Force?

TCU is gonna end up Big East folks as they look to survive. We are not in a good spot whatsover.

Well, looks like SMU, TCU, Rice and UH will be looking elsewhere. I suspect that also means by his nose count that UT, A&M, CO are probably staying and that they're only looking at losing NE and MO. If that's the case, they'll probably pitch BYU and/or Utah and probably make a pitch for Ark (which won't happen). I don't know who their next choice would be perhaps Pitt, Louisville, or Cincinnati if they wanted to poach into Big Ten territory as a slap back. Louisville could of course raise the hackles of the SEC and cause a raid by the SEC of A&M and perhaps others (like SMU, TCU, Rice, UH, or Baylor). The only way, we get into the Big XII is if UT and A&M leave.

The only way Big East takes Texas teams is if they split football and basketball.

If the Big East was looking to go to 12 I would agree, but if only Rutgers is lost then the Big East will most likely only add Central Florida and be satisfied.

UCF does nothing to protect their BCS dreams/lawsuit threat. TCU does. Travel costs are so far down the list of anyones worries right now.

Not when you talk Big East. Their slots are filled on the basketball side and they aren't taking Texas schools unless they go above 8 on football.

So you hold that the Big East will go to 12 by adding 5 schools? TCU, UCF, East Carolina, S. Miss, Houston?
