The State Legislature Might Have Something to SayRemember the battle in '96 when the SWC broke up. The Sand People in Lubbock and Ann Richards made sure that Tech and Baylor were in the deal. This time an Aggie is Governor. I don't see the stupid cows going to a "better" situation without the farmers getting a similar deal with the same or other conference. Furthermore, the "other" schools like UTEP, NTSU, etc., have HUGE student populatons, ergo political clout. So it just may be a little harder for ut and a&m to go to another conference than some people think.
Re: The State Legislature Might Have Something to SayYou are right, when the SWC broke up the governor was from Baylor and the Lieutenant Governor was from Tech. They had no qualms about selling out SMU, TCU, Rice or Houston. I don't know what influence UTEP or NTSU constituencies would exercise if UT or A & M want to seek greener pastures. I'm sure the TTU and Baylor people would scream, but I'm not sure what particular influence they might have. The Governor is an Aggie, the Lieutentant Governor went to Arizona, and the House Speaker is a graduate of Vanderbilt. It is interesting to note: The Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee is an SMU graduate.
