He and his brother were excellent players for Hawaii and he's another recruiting link to SoCal.

Abraham Elimimian, a former UH cornerback who served as Crenshaw High defensive coordinator last year, will join SMU as a graduate assistant.

By the way, Abe Elimimian was selected as the 81st best football player of all time for Hawaii.

ABE ELIMIMIAN: One of the most reliable cover men in UH history started all four seasons on teams that went 36-17. He intercepted three passes in one game and made first-team All-WAC as a senior in 2004. Played in the Senior Bowl.

Abe's younger brother Sol was selected as the 31st best football player of all time for Hawaii

SOLOMON ELIMIMIAN: UH's career leader in tackles (434) started four years, building an impressive body of work for teams that went 35-18. The Scout.com Freshman All-American was WAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2009. Three-time All-WAC academic.

Abe and Sol have a younger brother who plays football in high school now...I'm guessing that recruit plays for the high school that Abe was coaching at before joining SMU.

This is a comment from one of the members of SMU's football staff who served under JJ when both Glanville and McMackin were the DCs at Hawaii. I thought that SMU fans might be interested in this information...this does explain how JJ seems to get excellent (and overqualified, like Reinebold) GAs and how he helps his assistants progress in their careers.

It sure doesn't hurt for SMU to have their volunteer assistants move on to coaching positions at Blinn JC and a good Texas high school...

I'm glad he's on the staff as he's an outstanding individual. It's not so much if he can land a job on our staff in the near future, as not many coaches want to leave. But if he really wants to take coaching seriously and to a higher level, this is a perfect opportunity for him. The GA's we had in Hawaii went on to Div1 schools as coaches. We inherited 2 GA's from the last staff when we got here. One, never played college ball, the other played for a Div 2 school. Both now have jobs in the NFL. Our voluteer assistants, both of whom never played college ball are now coaches. One at Blinn JC, the other at a successful HS in Texas.

For Abe it's a perfect situation to mature as a coach. Learning under coach Mason is priceless. He is by far the best DC that I've ever worker with, and working for JJ is the best you can ask for. I can't wait for him to start here.
