Dez Bryant impressed by Bryan McCann

At the Dallas Cowboys' second Organized Team Activity (OTA) this week, SMU grad Bryan McCann continued his effort to convince coaches he deserves a spot on the 2010 roster.

McCann said he is getting more and more comfortable with the Dallas defense and his new teammates, and one of his most high-profile teammates said he was similarly impressed with McCann.

"He's a really good corner," said wide receiver Dez Bryant, the team's first-round draft pick. "He covers great, and he's a really smart player. The coaches tell him something and he does it right the next time — it doesn't look like they have to teach him things over and over."

Bryant and McCann have gone up against each other three times now — first, in the team's rookie mini-camp the weekend after the NFL Draft, and then in OTAs in each of the last two weeks.

"He can play in this league," Bryant said of McCann. "He's really good at what he (does). It seems like he has a real competitive nature — he doesn't back down from no one.

"He should have been drafted — no question. As long as he keeps doing doing what he's doing and working hard, he'll get a chance. He can play."

On another note, it is nice to get accolades from Dez but he is a rookie and maybe not the best person to say what it takes to make it in the league. Also, he has a vested interest in trying to explain why he has trouble getting open vs. McCann.

It's odd on an SMU fan message board that anything and everything positive about SMU
must always be "qualified" or questioned. If it's a Coach Reinebold quote, if it's about a
recruit, anything. I notice this morning it looks like the upbeat positive quote by Coach
Reinebold about recruiting some great talent in Louisiana that Stallion felt the uncontrollable
need to pee on...quess what? Looks like that thread had to be deleted. Amazing a positive
harmless quote from one of our hardworking coaches coming off the Hawaii Bowl is something "controversial" and ends up getting deleted. Oh well...what else is new?
