Without Texas, Tech, A&M and OU (Nebraska or Mizzou soon to follow), is the Big XII an automatic BCS conference? I say, "No." You might rebuild a conference with some of C-USA and some of the Big XII leftovers that is stronger than the current C-USA, but it won't be the Big XII, except perhaps in name only.
We are not in the driver's seat adn need to keep our head on a swivel.

Do you think Kate even read the article she cited? The author couldn't have been serious, right? It sounded like the author was pretty much making fun of UH and the idea of that conference.

the only thing that I will say about the concept is that it is too bad there is still so much distrust and hatred among the old SWC schools. I think there is something to be said for Baylor, SMU, TCU UH and hell even Rice to at least make initial overtures of attempting to work in tandem to get a solid Texas base in any conference they consider-but I know in my heart they will walk all over each other and may end up in an even more fractured non-Texas based situation.

I love this idea. I think it would be great to try and do with the MWC. You would have to think it would be attractive for a conference to have all 4 D1a teams located in DFW and Houston. Add Baylor, which should be a solid fball program under Briles and a great hoops program, and this is going to be pretty attractive to someone. MWC makes sense.

Oh and the article is [deleted]. Half of D*ck Justice's article's are sarcastic and a complete waste of time. He baits fan bases and attempts to anger them with drivel in order to get hits for his blog. Houston Chronicle has laid off so many of their top writers/reports- guys who actually covered sports well, but kept Justice because he plays the system well by gitting buzz, even if his journalism is terrible.

I concur, Justice may be the single worst sports writer in America. I feel dumber after reading an article he writes.

I expect the DMN or Bleacher Report to run with a ridiculous idea for a conference based on some half assed blogger... but I expected more from ESPN. If I hear from one more source that it would be a good idea to be in a conference with Sam Houston State, Texas State, and UTSA I'm going to throw my computer out the window.

If the Big XII gets picked to the bone and all that's left is Baylor, Kansas, KSU & Iowa St, that conference is dead and the MWC stands to benefit by pulling in Boise, Kansas and KSU
Baylor would make a nice addition to CUSA but for balance, we'd need to add another school on the eastern side. USF would be a nice addition is the Big East football group is decimated as well.
If the Big 10 and PAC 10 go the the mega conference with 16 members, the Big XII and Big East football appear to be the most vulnerable
