good update but the real speculation "bomb" is that what we are really seeing is the creation of 4 sixteen team conferences which will shut out all other schools from the Championship if it passes legal challenges Let the lawsuits start flying-the evidence grows everyday in support of an antitrust lawsuit which I might add includes treble damages punitives. Damages could be astronomical in this case. This is simply a Classic textbook case.

You have to have "standing" to file an anti-trust lawsuit. Some SMU alumni sued the NCAA in 1987-and although I don't believe there was an antitrust claim-the Court held the alumni did not have standing in that case. I would think only a University Board would have the necessary standing to file such a lawsuit.

I hope we are ready b/c if the big 12 dissolves and the MWC picks up the pieces that don't include us...we will be forever on the outside looking in...

I have been saying for some time that I believe this is the goal of the AQ BCS conferences. I believe that in the short run it will be profitable for them, but it will ultimately kill the TV market. If you eliminate a school from having any chance at a major bowl, much less the national championship you eliminate the interest of most of that school's fans. There are simply not enough fans of the 64 teams to support the kind of TV dollars they are talking about. That is also why the UT network is not a good idea. Outside of Texas there are not enough UT fans to support a network and Texas will not support it in the same way as a conference network would be supported.

It is so wrong that an SMU guy writes for Orangebloods-dot-com!

That's the dark side of the Force, Chip!

Seriously, when he was sports editor of the Daily Campus he helped me out by rewriting half the copy I turned in, back when I was an immature freshman.

Thanks Chip, and I know you don't really bleed orange.
