JJ gone in 6 years?

Postby mustang musashi » Sun Jun 06, 2010 10:59 pm

JJ has 6 years left on his contract and one can only guess what he'll do after it is up. Well, this came from the Hawaii message board... If he left after those 6 years and he had winning seasons and bowl game appearances winning more than losing would you guys hold it against him if he indeed did return to Hawaii? Would his accomplishments be enough to show him gratitude for everything he has done for the Pony Nation??

Went to Texas Ranger Baseball game today....guess what...met a SMU athletic department official....we started talking and he mentioned SMU trying to schedule a game with Hawaii.....Texas A & M wants out of a contract....
anyway he also said June Jones will be returning to Hawaii in SIX years.....He misses Hawaii a lot and will return....
Informed him that some football magazines are predicting Hawaii-SMU in Hawaii Bowl.....He said that would be
great!!!!!

Six years.....wonder where the Hawaii football program will be in SIX years.....LOL.....

Sure, I'm a total Pollyanna. But Jones has intimated that he came to SMU with a very specific purpose. I can not believe that the purpose in mind was to make the University of Hawaii jealous. If it was, I'll be as heartbroken as I was as an Intern on Capital hill... (and no, I never did get a cigar!)

He still hasn't alluded to that "specific purpose"? I remember him mentioning something about that before his 1st season here.

1) JJ will return to Hawaii when his time here is up. His comments that SMU will be his last college job lead me to believe that his return to Hawaii will be as a retired football coach.

2) If he decides that he wants to coach football at Hawaii at that point, I won't hold it against him.

Six years is ample time to get good players in here and have a very established system for the future.

How many coaches stay eight years anywhere anymore?

I always assumed the "specific purpose" was to earn ten millions with the original contract and retire to the Islands. If he walks at the end, no problem with me. There will always be doubt in my mind how smart the AD was throwing around that two million a year figure from the beginning. SMU might have gotten JJ or someone to do the job for say $1,200,00 a year?

naw JJ wouldnt have left hawaii for 1.2... thats the same amount the UH AD offered him, but he chose SMU because of the way the AD was run and the fact that they threw him 2 million and offered him support that he wouldnt have received at UH... after he left then they gave the money up and the additional support, but to a coaching staff headed no where... go figure...

Maybe JJ returns to Hawaii as the AD.

If he gets done what I believe he can in his 6 years we will send him off with a statue at Ford. :D

June Jones will leave SMU a hero and if he does grace us with 8 full years as head coach, he can go and do whatever he wants in Hawaii as far as I'm concerned. The man has already done what some people thought was impossible in just two seasons. 8 seasons of June Jones at SMU is beyond anything any of us could have hoped for when the coaching search began back in 2007.
Back off Warchild seriously.

This will be his last coaching job. When he goes back to Hawaii, it will not be as their coach, maybe as an AD to get them to the next level, but he doesn't have anything to prove there or here and won't have anything to prove anywhere after he finishes up his plans here.
And yes TAMU is wishy washy on plans to play us...could be a good payout/buyout for us anyway.
