Re: SI -- ND officially on the clockNotre Dame could join and insist on being part of the western division...would give them a better shot at the Big 10 (or whatever they call themselves) Championship game
Re: SI -- ND officially on the clockas well they should be - delaney wants thema nd will get them - if they don't then nd is screwed bc delaney will take rutgers and some other eastern schools and that will be the end of the big east - there are many big 10 alums who would love a 30 minute train ride from manhattan to see their school play - go blue

Re: SI -- ND officially on the clockI would be interested to know what ND gets out of the Big 10 (11). Unlike any other school, ND has its own 'network' with one of the biggest networks in existance. Does ND give that up to join the Big 10 (11)'s netowrk? ND has a basketball conference. Will the Big 10 (11) basketball conference add anything to ND basketball? I am interested in the business model that makes sense to ND.
Re: SI -- ND officially on the clock
I think the big concern is not wanting to get left behind in the dust. This might be ND's last chance to go to the Big Ten, especially if they go to 16. And a Big Ten with ND, Mizzou, Nebraska, Rutgers, etc. would make a boatload of $$$. Not sure how it would compare to ND's NBC contract though
Re: SI -- ND officially on the clockI wonder if the pending Comcast/NBC merger has some influence on ND's decision. If I'm the network exec in charge and was faced with broadcasting ND every Saturday against opponents from the WAC & Confusa because the 16 team super-conferences can't squeeze ND into their schedules, I'd left them know that money might not be there come contract time.
Re: SI -- ND officially on the clockI think the bigger point is how does ND compete for a national championship if there are four 16 team conferences. The conference championships would be the national quarterfinals, with a four team tournament for the national championship with the conference winners. This would leave ND on the outside for a national championship. This would cause concern for even the strongest support of ND remaining independent.
PONY UP!
Re: SI -- ND officially on the clockThanks. Interesting times.
Re: SI -- ND officially on the clockI thought someone posted somewhere that the NBC/ND deal didn't earn as much as the Big 10/SEC currently earn per school. Anyone with any insight?

Re: SI -- ND officially on the clock
Notre Dame-NBC $9 million last year Big Ten network-$22 million per school last year http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/b ... x?blogid=8
Re: SI -- ND officially on the clockIsn't the real value to ND that they will have every game broadcast on a major network that every person across the country with a TV set has access to.
It makes you wonder with all the advantages they have, how they can be so bad? #NewLobCity
Re: SI -- ND officially on the clock
The TV access isnt likely to change if ND were to join the Big Ten, given the Big Ten Network and various other TV deals that the Big Ten has. PONY UP!
