Pac-10 commish: Maybe just a Pac-11?
By Richard Tijerina | Thursday, June 10, 2010, 03:23 PM

In a teleconference Thursday, Pac-10 commissioner Larry Scott said that his conference won’t necessarily pluck any other Big 12 schools besides Colorado, which announced this afternoon that it was leaving.
“I’d say that (having an 11-team conference) is a possibility,” Scott said.
He also said that no assurances and that no invitations have been issued to any other Big 12 schools, including Texas and Texas A&M, whose athletic directors met on Thursday in Austin to discuss their future.
“There are several different scenarios,” Scot siad. “There is no defined timetable” for further Pac-10 expansion.

This is just we won't extend invite till we know it will be accepted BS.

Just like a team hiring a coach or anything else. You don't offer until you know it is accepted.
At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

well yea, but what that means is that Texas hasn't convinced A&M yet to go Pac. Sounds to me like that Pac commish is now hedging expectations in case he gets left at the alter by A&M and others.

Another possibility is that Texas, et al are trying to improve their negotiating positions.

A&M doesn't stop the PAC's plans. Watch PAC take Utah instead.

Texas is "locked down" right now, very little leakage as to what is happening, which suggests that maybe the issue is that Texas itself is split on the move--there are alot of contstiuancies to please.

It just means their planned moves are contingent on hearing official confirmations on other moves later today.

Consider also the comment through the Big Ten official when talking to Texas that there was 'the Tech issue'...check the current Texas legislature for numbers/school association for the necessary voting blocks. Part of the reason that Texas has been hitched to the Sand Aggies comes down to votes needed to promote or rescind current binding conference legislation, which WILL make it to the floor in Austin (well above issues like illegal immigration/agrilife contracts/oil safety regs/et al).

A&M will face a howl of protests from alums if separated from the Horns, but are actively back channeling with the SEC...this has raised UT's radar, and turned the attention to prospects east. The Pac 10 is playing a leverage card (such as it is) against Texas to keep interest west.

Baylor is on the outside looking in unless A&M heads to the SEC.

Get your popcorn ready for today...this is the one where the waters clear a bit more. We (SMU) are in for another tough ride, though not as bad as 1994.
