Cartel smoke screen

Postby Charleston Pony » Thu Jun 10, 2010 5:24 pm

have to give the BCS cartel credit for this smokescreen they have thrown up.

given the pressure being brought by the MWC for a seat at the table, there was only one option. Let them in, but keep the number of players the same.

That can be accomplished by Texas, A&M, Tech, OU and OSU joining Colorado in the new PAC 16 while the MWC picks up the remaining Big XII schools to form a 14 member group that earns an auto bid.

Notre Dame is aligned with Big East for one auto bid, SEC, ACC, Big 10/12, MWC and PAC 16 are the other auto bids. Big XII (south) is eliminated so Big 10 can take that name.

PAC 16, Big 10/12 and SEC are positioned to take more BCS bids and exclude that other nuisance, Boise State.

Have to wonder whether that's the way this will all ultimately play out

Wish I could blame the BSC for all this, but I can't. I think one of the consequences of this is the end of the BSC. There will not be enough AQ places to satiate the super conferences' appetite for Big Bowl money. I see the Super conferences designing a new system that allows for more big bowl placement and more aggressive TV contracts. The conferences take over and cut out the network tie-in.

is the pressure from the MWC really that strong? MWC can clamor all it wants but i don't see the big boys moving mountains to let them in sooner than later. Seems to me this is all driven by the precedent set by the Big 10 network. They could let the MWC dangle in the wind for several more years. Its not like this is on congress's agenda right next to financial reform.
