I actually like cowlishaw for the most part, not as must as JJ taylor, but i like him... but his comment towards SMU is ridiculous... really? the only major college football team in dallas, coming off their best season in 25 years, and you have to say that? not that he's innacurate in anything that he said.... just the fact that he is part of the problem....

What did he say? That Boulder pays no more attention to Colorado football than Dallas does SMU football? Well, they probably don't.

Sure, we hope the situation will improve, but we can't sell out Ford routinely, and that's with (at least last year) almost no local television. Attendance and television will be much, much better this year, but won't rival the attendance or ratings Austin, Lubbock, or even (shudder) Waco.

Dallas doesn't pay attention to SMU football. Fort Worth is better, but does not pay attention to TCU football. Not the way that Lincoln, Ann Arbor, or Knoxville pay attention to their teams. (Or for that matter, how Dallas pays attention to the Longhorns).

SMU can rise to prominence again, but one Hawaii Bowl win isn't going to do it. Or, on the other hand, conference realignment could kill those chances forever. We have to wait and see. Frustrating, but true.

I can't say that Cowlishaw is wrong on SMU and making the Dallas market stand still. All of my sports-watching life has been post death penalty and I must say that in the DFW area, SMU holds an edge in relevance over minor league ice hockey and that's about it.

We still have a ways to go before we get the kind of respect that we desire.

win consistently and diversify just a little and we can win a lot of hearts and minds in Dallas, just like the U did...scratch that. they didn't diversify, they just won consistently. no reason that can't be us, especially with the Cowboys moving west and getting more expensive and worse every year.

Maybe I'm missing something but does Fox even televise the MWC? Or have plans to do so in the future? I've heard they may want to get in the game with I believe the new PAC/Big 12? Did SMU "hotbox" Fox Executives with George Bush, Big **** Cheney, and Karl Rove? Is this a hoax?
