Statement by Baylor President

Don't know if it has been posted yet, but this statement by Ken Starr dredges up a lot of my old bad feelings towards Baylor. Any one of the "extremely serious" concerns raised by this statement could have been applicable in 1994, but I don't remember Baylor standing up for those principals then. Openness, public involvement, economic impact, etc. are critical issues in this round of realignmet but apparently they weren't when the SWC split up. This is just another load of crap from an undeserving university that was gifted a seat at the big table in 1994 and then blew it. I have no sympathy.

Baylor has one option left. . .keeping the Big-12 together. If it splits up, Baylor is toast. I really don't think it matters if UT and A&M go in different directions or not. Neither school is going to take Baylor along.

Nor should they.

My only disappointment about this reshuffling is that Tech is being taken along for the ride. I really wish both Tech and Baylor were left behind.

Utter desperation when the best one can hope for is goobernment action. How willing will legislators be to sacrifice a vast number of Texas schools to save Baylor’s Bear butt?

Of course there always is the possibility that some form of the Big-12 will survive. . .for now. It sounds like UT and A&M are not toally in agreement on how to proceed. Baylor's best chance is that disharmony leads to paralysis and the Big-12 lives for another few years.

Baylor had no issues with the SWC breaking up once they knew they were getting on that money train. They did nothing whatsoever to preserve their ties to us. All politics aside, Starr is a weasel in charge of what amounts to a glorified vacation bible school. Hope we wind up in a conference with them so we can trounce them every year.

As a TCU fan, I have been reminding everyone who will listen, that TCU & SMU have one thing in common, both were stabbed in the back by Baylor. I hope that the TCU administration remembers that when Baylor comes begging at their door. My fear is that Kansas and Kansas State will want to keep Baylor around because of basketball. Why does Baylor always end up being another schools trash that gets taken along? Ken Starr was last seen in Lawrence wearing a$$less chaps and putting makeup on.

I want to play Baylor every year, TCU every year, UH every year. Fans are tired of playing teams nobody cares about. The SMU Baylor game will have very good attendance as well. It was the best series in the SWC from 1975-1986-its was a WAR-ask anyone who played or watched each game. Look Baylor deserved the last Big 12 spot-they had the most consistently strong program at the time under Grant Teaff-TCU, SMU and UH would have cut each other's throats to step over Baylor-so why the bitterness? As far as I'm concerned I'm hoping that they end up in CUSA or whereever we go. You guys can have Ricearoni and the Tulanians-I want the SMU/Baylor Series back.

good thing for Baylor this is not 2005. Still don't know how they overcame the scandal they had and so quickly.

I saw, Rep. Dunnum's comments this morning, what a tool. I really enjoyed the Kenny Starr's comment "the lawmakers are calling for a careful and thoughtful analysis of any proposed change to the Big 12." Lawmakers and thoughtful analysis, is that not an oxymoron?

I agree with the rest of the posters, Baylor was not to worried about the rest of us when the big 12 was formed. I hope they end up in the Sun Belt.

so again, these bozos are asking for a special session of the Legislature to be called in a non-Legislative year just to have hearings on the big 12? Come on!

and again, next January when the session does get rolling this stuff will be long played out.

Ironically (since I started this thread), I agree with most of this post. I would like to see the SMU/Baylor rivalry renewed. I will always hold on to my bitterness against Baylor, irrespective of what SMU, etc. may have hypothetically done. In fact, for me that might make the SMU/Baylor series more fun then ever.

What I really want is for TCU, Baylor, SMU, and UH to be back in the same conference. Rice too?. . .maybe, maybe not, depending on other factors. It would be great to have a "Welcome Back Baylor" chant going at Ford. Those bastards. :)

Nothing wrong with a little hatred for a longtime rival but to cut off your nose and not play Baylor so we can play UTEP, Tulsa, UAB, Marshall, Sam Houston St etc makes no sense to me. We will all benefit by getting Baylor back on the schedule-the Boulevard would rock too. I predict Baylor would become Rival No. 1.

Well, as long as there's no dancing then it's okay.
