Report: SEC trying to lure Oklahoma as well as A&M
01:06 AM CDT on Sunday, June 13, 2010

Orangebloods.com reported Saturday night that the Southeastern Conference is trying to lure Oklahoma as well as Texas A&M.

According to Orangebloods.com, there is speculation among a few schools in the Big 12 that if OU had to choose between the Pac-10 and SEC, it would choose the SEC.

Oklahoma athletic director Joe Castiglione was quoted in the Tulsa World last week saying the Sooners are committed to going where Texas goes.

I should have taken my own advice!

Interesting that Texas set its regents meeting the day after the ultimatum it issued to all of the other schools ended. Even more interesting that OU set theirs for a day after UT set theirs....I kept wondering why they had been so quiet. Well played Sooners. Well played.

That would be even better news for SMU though--unless the Pac-10 stops at 14.

SMU89 I wish OU & A&M would bolt for the SEC and leave Texas
with trips to Oregon State and Pullman, Washington, but I doubt it will happen....
because the ball always seems to somehow bounce in Texas' favor.

I've been reading that if OU and ATM bolt for the SEC then Texas will explore options with the Big 10.

Texas in the Big 10 just seems like a duck-outta-water to me...
but I guess money can at least help ease the pain....

Thats just empty BS speculation. OU is going to the Pac 16 and that will be finalized next week. The new Pac 16 TV network being set up is worth $20 million a year to each team in the new Pac 16 and the potential broad TV exposure to all those TV sets around the top markets in the US are too much to turn down.

I think it would be hilarious if UT lost its two premier rivals and gamedays over this.

According to one article, Oklahoma law requires a 48 hour window between when a meeting is announced and it is held. So if they "officially" announce the meeting tomorrow, Wednesday is the earliest day it can be held.

More and more it seems that the best option is backfill the departures of the Big 12, stay at 12 teams, let the Pac 10 add Colorado and Utah and then work together on a joint TV package, maybe even have a single non-conference series amongst members every year. But, I am afraid that Texas let Pandora's box open and now even they can't control the damage. If Texas thinks they can control things or have special treatment in another conference, it doesn't appear that way. Certainly, not in the SEC or Big 10, and the Pac 10 seems to be moving on, choosing its own members without Texas approval, while A&M is set to prove that they are independent of the horns. This doesn't look good for anyone.

Agreeing to the Big 8 and Southwest Conference merger in the 90s has been the downfall of a strong Nebraska program. Thus they are moving on. Texas is in potential trouble if the Pac 16 deal blows up and A&M and OU move to the SEC....Not going to happen, but an updated version of the old Southwest Conference would be more fun for all the fans in our part of the country.

Interesting. If Texas shoots itself in the foot and heads west while OU and A&M end up in the SEC, I do expect that to impact Texas' rivalries with OU and A&M, but it would also leave Texas without a true rival within their own conference. Sorry, Texas Tech hasn't quite reached that level.
