Big 12 will not be able to honor its Dallas Football Classic alliance which would then fall to CUSA(in fact plans should be made immediately to make this the Champions invitation). Could be a good opportunity to play an average Big 10 team but big name. Here is a list of the Big 12 Bowl pecking order.

I thought for sure we'd at least get Baylor in this round which would have been a shot in the arm for attendance. Oh well we are scheduled to play them from 2011-2016

I have a question, what are the negatives for SMU in all of this? Everything pretty much stays the same, and we have now have a shot to win games and get credibility. This was the best case scenario

Deficits
Lack of Visibility
Recruiting
Playing Games with a Bunch of Schools who have no natural or traditional affinity to SMU fans
But on the other hand its becoming more and more clear for private schools that you only get excluded from BCS Conferences and probably never will be included. TCU has an almost impeccable resume on the field - yet not good enough. SMU is 12 years behind TCU. They had a shot at turning the MWC into a BCS Conference. The MWC gets raided or the BCS changes the rules. I think someday, unless a lawsuit is filed, we might just have to be satisfied with a conference that makes sense-not 16 or 14 or even 12. Just 9-10 teams that make sense like:
SMU
Baylor
TCU
UH
Southern Miss
Memphis
UCF
Tulane
Tulsa
---------
Rice

Yeah, but in my eyes if this whole realignment deal took place we would have been in even worse circumstances. Now we have a chance to prove ourselves and get into a better conference.

Stallion, I understand the affinty part, but what would need to occur for TCU and Baylor to end up having to link up with mostly CUSA members?

BYU and Air Force going to the PAC-10 for starters.

BYU replacing Baylor in Big 12 would do it-I'm sure there are a 1,000 other permutations that aren't going to happen either. But quite frankly I truly believe unless the non-BCS schools decide to sue that all these teams could be in the top 10 for 5 years and still not get in the BCS.

Stallion, what do you think the likelihood is of some form of litigation toward the BCS some day? Any reason it hasn't happened earlier? When the guy from Tulane was rattling his saber a few years back, he just quietly went away, Is it a lack of money from the schools on the outside (or courage)? I don't know how being friends with BCS teams has helped us. "Please like us! Please."

Stallion, you are right. I liked how the "PAC 16" was planning to petition the BCS for 2 automatic bids. As if the MWC needed more evidence that the BCS rules are made up as they go along. The MWC needs to recognize that at the end of the day, they are going to be "just short" of inclusion.
