If Utah bolts, personally I think MWC adds Houston and is done. It's tough to hear, and I know that they are a commuter school, will probably never raise $ for the stadium they drew up the other day, etc...but they have proven on the field, and they have a baseball team, which many in MWC see as a huge advantage.

Baseball is irrelevant to this discussion. Currently, in the MWC, neither Colorado St nor Wyoming field a team. Additionally, their newest member (Boise St), doesn't have a baseball team. This is all about REVENUE sports and potential TV sets.

Utah is supposed to announce the 11th...should be no later than the 18th...

Just so I get credit on being right here.....

That is dead on with the E.S. draft pick and this...Wish I knew what was happening to SMU...

I understand baseball doesn't drive the bus...my point is , all things being equal, they'd probably take the team with baseball over the one without. Now, if you want to say things are NOT equal, i.e., we have better facilities, more influential alumni, better attendance than UH, then basaeball is irrelevant.

Houston can raise the money-not from alumni-but Houston can vote to have a Student Activity Fee just like North Texas did and raise a lot of cash over the long term. I'm wondering why the hell they haven't. They are and will continue to be a huge school-I think they are like the third biggest in the state. They needed that facility 20 years ago. The school needs althletics to fight the commuter school image. I'd be shocked if this latest realignment fail didn't wake them up to finally get this done before the Big 12 TV Contract with ABC expires in 2016.

Assuming that our soccer team gets back to its former self, would you rather a crappy baseball team or a soccer team that challenges for a National title year in year out. Add to that UNM is a soccer power which is in the MWC.

Why does our baseball team have to be crappy? I would love to see SMU in the CWS!

It's gonna be brutal this year with TCU. They have already become the hometown favorite because they beat Texas amidst all of the realignment mess.

In soccer we have a Texas monopoly - in baseball we would compete with Rice, UT, A&M, UH, Baylor, TCU, TT, Dallas Baptist, UTA, and so forth in Division 1, not to mention other schools from out of state like OU, OSU, LSU and the like. We went to the final four twice in soccer, I really doubt that we would be in the CWS unless we made a huge $$$$ (scholarship committment and facility) to baseball, and hired Whitey Herzog to coach.

I see your point, but why does it have to be a choice?

When I got to school, we were Top 25 in all sports ranking--and we know that football and basketball were bringing that ranking down. No reason we can't be committed to multiple non-revenue sports at one time again.

And just because there is regional competition in baseball doesn't mean we can't make the CWS. I am a firm believer in the theory of anything the frogs can do, we can do better.

I agree that we could excel at Olympic/Non-revenue sports. Soccer has slipped and neither Swimming & Diving teams were not Top 20 this year, nor our traditional Top 10 for both Men and Women.

Facilities are a major issue for Swimming, but other sports, including M&W soccer, have other issues.

We were Top 25 for the Sears Cup, no longer.
