Take a look. Pretty interesting to read thru and see what these MWC'ers think about adding UH. Wouldn't bode well for our little ponies, but then again, none of these jokers have a say.

I read about half way down. It didn't sound like many of them were very hot for the idea.

I will note that last year, UofH lost its single biggest benefactor in a car crash. O'Quinn was rich and gave a lot of money to the law school and university as a whole. Maybe they have other uber-rich donors, but I don't know of them. It is a commuter school. I went to law school there. There were only a handful of UofH grads in the law school and they were all commuters. Univ. of Houston delivers nothing.

That's awful. Who was the benefactor that died? Terrible stuff.

SMT, I thought you were going to say that it was awful/terrible that SMU Football Blog (Dooby) went to U of H for law school.

Doobs, did they teach you how to roll doobies with your degree?

I kid, I kid.

(Had a friend who was a presidential scholar at U of H, I gave him tons of [deleted], but he is/was a genius and got everything out of that school that he put in - which I think is true of 99% of schools in this country.... granted he was a physics student there and is now teaching guitar in Scotland.)

Nothing, besides winning seasons, more attendance, and beating BCS schools.
Not saying they should go, just saying last year they beat #5 OSU, Texas Tech, and Mississippi State and were ranked. We haven't done squat. Have we beaten a BCS school? My point was if they are not thrilled about UH, no way in hell they would want us this year. Yes, our future looks good. But we shouldn't get an invite off of one good year out of 25 years.

UH's big-time (or one of) alum donors was a lawyer named John O'Quinn. He went after the tobacco companies and the drug company that released Phen-Phen. Won HUGE on both. Also represented Anna Nicole Smith in the late stages of her saga.

Little known fact, but the field at Coog High is/was named John O'Quinn Field.

Great guy - I had the chance to meet him through the old car hobby.

He loved cars. What was it? Cameros? I heard that whenever there was a car auction adn one of those came up (I think it was Cameros), O'Quinn had a guy there to buy it regardless of price.

O'Quinn was a legal genius. And a drunk. And a little shady on the ethics of client solicitation. That being said, he was a gifted trial lawyer. The story goes that he was 3rd year lawyer at Akin Gump and sitting across the table a deposition defending his client and looked at the plaintiff's lawyer across from him that was making more money and decided he was a better lawyer and quit the firm.

Anyway, as far as I know, he gave more money to UofH than anyone else. I don't think his family had any other connection to UofH so I don't think that connection will continue.

While certainly important, invites are not based solely on winning and the consequent increases in attendance. Yes, they're important. But invites are based on the whole package.

O'Quin gave 25 Million to UH Athletics back along time ago when that was real money

They built an athletic complex with that money rather thanm a Stadium. Used to have an ownership interest in the San Diego Padres I believe.
