... and I agree with them. They should've bolted for the SEC. (IMO, UT was scared to death they'd do it.)

The aggies need there own identity. The only way to get that back would be to leave texas and join another conference. Given the stature of the sec, that would be a great place for the aggies.

Wish that this would still happen.

They are afraid of the big bad wolf, so afraid in fact that they'd destroy tradition in order to rid themselves of him. I agree with their AD: they need to stand up to UT and beat them on the field. Running away to play in the SEC will only give them new big, bad wolves.

Aggie's problems are Aggie's problems. Fact is that they got complacent and mismanaged their athletic department, made some bad hires and allowed Texas and Texas Tech to pass them. That is what happened. It is not Texas's fault or Mack Brown's fault they lost 10 of 14 to Texas Tech (during the life of the Big XII and consistently finished with a worse record for most of it).

Texas rightly doesn't care what Aggie does. No one wants to live in college station. They need to bring back Jackie Sherrill and pull the armored truck back up to the locker room. You don't need to pay a kid to land in Dallas... College Station? That place is as attractive as a cold sore.

cmon Thad, lets be real, playing in front of 80,000 adoring fans appeals to every kid. And the rural kids and inner city kids are probably much more comfortable in CS than uptown Dallas.

If it were me I'd choose College Station all day over Austin. But I'm a pickup truck rather than a VW bus kind of a guy.

Touché.

I agree with the rural kids... but talk to Forrest Gregg, he grew up picking cotton. He had committed to A&M and shifted his commit to SMU.

Going back to CS, there's nothing there, though. It's flat and hot and that's it. 80K only goes so far. Problem with A&M is that in the late 70s and early 80s they had the biggest war chest out there and they still couldn't buy a winner. Rural kids still want to play for a winner. Rural kids want to play where the lights are brightest.

A&M in the SEC would work out worse than A-R-K (oh I can't spell it anyway). A Texas kid looking to play in the SEC would rather play for LSU or Florida.

The only Texas kids who grow up wanting to play for the Aggies are the ones from Aggie families. In this state you either want to play for Texas or beat Texas.

I think you know where I stand. Only two places in this great state I can live. Dallas or Austin. Okay, I could do Fort Worth or Houston if I had to... but thankfully I don't and won't have to. (Fort Worth over Houston anyday, btw.... FW is not a city I'd want to go to college in... but I think as a place, it's kind of like Pittsburgh.... you think it's crap and no one tells you otherwise, and then you go there and you're like, well this place ain't that bad! In fact, I kind of like it. It's weird that way, esp. growing up int Big D and just having it engrained that FW sucks.)

I'll relay your sentiments to Alexandra!

I'm sure she'll immensely appreciate your analogy!

I love, love, love Pittsburgh!

One of the best cities in the country, but the perception was always negative. I think those from Pittsburgh like it that way... a sort of secret that they like to keep.

i love it when people talk about a&m who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. it doesn't bother me. i take it for what it is. it's like people who have no idea what smu is about and say outlandish things.

Where you "live?" Man, that's overrated .... I guess SMU should be getting all the Aggie recruits, huh?
Texas would jealous as hell if the Aggies got into the SEC, playing legendary programs like Tennessee, Alabama, Florida, LSU, Arkansas and Georgia every frickin' week, in legendary venues in front of real football fans. The SEC is sexy, baby. (Truth be told, the SEC is probably Texas' secret dream.)

The Big 12(10)? Please. It's now Texas, OU and the midwest intramural champs.

You talking about me?

If so, I have a real feeling about colleges... you get what you give... if you go to a school that has any kind of rep you are going to get a lot. A&M ca give you a great education and you can have all kinds of fun in College Station, you just have to give it.

In all honesty my time at SMU wasn't all that fun amongst the gen pop, but I got what I gave. My all and I got a great education.... despite my anger towards fellow students..... and the NCAA for taking away any chance of school spirit.

A&M made the incredibly dumb decision to hire the typical NFL Coach but Coordinator type that is getting his [deleted] handed to him in recruiting by UT and OU. Texas connections needed to recruit Texas. I'm sure he can X and O with the best of them but College Football is about RECRUITING.
