"It's no wonder superconferences are an inevitability. Texas' decision to stay in the Big 12 didn't stabilize the conference. It destabilized it completely. This power move could be mimicked in the future. The big schools wonder why they should share the wealth with everybody else when they are the ones raking in all the money" There will be more and more articles criticizing Texas in the future.

For instance, if Texas's tactics resulted in the distribution suggested by the article, one could argue that as a state school they usurped the rights of the state legislature in the allocation of funding between themselves and Tech and A&M, not to mention the harm they did to Baylor, another Texas institution.

For instance Texas, OU, and A&M each get a $4.0 -10.0MM in annual revenue premium to Tech and Baylor (as suggested by the article). Annually this will cost Tech $1.2-3.0MM if all distributions had been equal . In effect Texas, not the legislature has transferred allocated potential revenue from one state instituition to another. Over the life of the TV contract, the money is significant. I am sure, some state legislator from West Texas is going to try to make a point of this at the next budget session.

While this argument seems weak, the resentment within the State and within the conference is only going to fester. One can easily argue that the Big 12 is the least stable of all conferences in America, even the Big East.

If all the big programs got together to form a single conference, for every winner there would be 11 losers--I wonder if these programs really want this? Again, I don't think Texas will find a willing dance partner from another conference in the next five years--no one, the SEC, the PAC or the Big 10 would put up with their demands and selfishness. Who would trust them?

UT seems to just about have everything going the way they want it these days.... But if all the negative articles/comments continue about Texas around the country, they might find this may actually hurt their National UT image and maybe recruiting down the line. It really isn't smart to just pi$$ off too many other schools/conferences.

I doubt this stuff will hurt UT's recruiting one bit.

Texas also went through numerous mediocre coaches and about 20 years of mediocrity and OU went through a decade. The success of those schools has much more to do with recruiting than Cash. What those schools did right is make great Coaching hires both of whom were always considered dominant recruiters. The Aggies made it even easier by hiring a Pro head coach with no Texas recruiting ties. What Mack Brown has done is transform Texas recruiting-that is the difference and that is the basis of the program's success. He should be credited for realizing that the best way to keep the best Texas players in Texas is outwork every other staff and identify the best recruits by the end of their Junior Year. Then he offered them while the other school's coaching staff were on vacation in the weeks following the previous signing date. Now its a self-fullfilling success. Just about every Texas high school Junior wants to be Mack's first two recruiting camps in February and March. Then he gets commitments from 90% of the Top Recruits he wants before the recruiting services and other staffs across the Nation even knows their names. That's the genesis of the Texas program success-that's what wins games, championships and fills stadiums. TALENT. Mack Brown revolutionized College Football recruiting and only a handful of schools can compete with what he invented.

I agree with everything you have said about Mack Brown's recruiting success Stallion and I realize most of UTs commitments commit after his first few camps and he has revolutionized recruiting.... I'm just saying UT has created a lot of negative press nationally for themselves over their handling of conference realignment and payoffs. What does this mean ? Maybe nothing but we will see.

I'd like to see how Brown's success would work at a nonbcs-BS school? Hmmm. They we'll see how successful Mack Brown really is.

One of my friends is a die hard UNC grad and he still is mad at them for letting Mack Brown get away.

I'll say this about Brown, he won at Tulane and North Carolina before he got to UT. Great recruiter and a better Coach than a lot of people think.
