Back from Ruston

Observations from Ruston

the people were friendly.
once in Ruston, i felt i had gone back in time twenty five years or so.
Mexican food is not their specialty!
Local sports writer listed Richard Bartel, as one of our main weapons.
Besides the Mustang Band, and players parents, there couldn't have been more than 50 Mustang fans there.
And as for there announced crowd of 14,000 plus, there could NOT have been more than 8,000 there.
I don't know if Phillips is the future, but he didn't have many negative yardage plays.
Our o-line couldn't knock foam off of a glass of root beer. (sorry scott, couldn't resist)
McMurtray missed another chip shot field goal.
Our corners can't cover.
We are STILL missing alot of tackles.
Our kickoff returns now have trouble getting back to the twenty.
When we ran onto the field before the game, we looked like we had no interest, energy, or reason for being there. ( i suddenly felt the same)
The (drumming cowboy) and the greatness of the Mustang Band made the afternoon tolerable!
And that is without doubt, the worst stadium i have ever seen! They need to put some MAJOR money into their facilities.

Dude's working in Ruston - how good can he be? That's why you always get your SMU news on this site, and nowhere else, right? :w00t:

1) Thanks for the support. We tried, and I thought it was a great game for us
2) Obviously you were not at the Tulsa game. While LA Tech definatly had an OLD stadium, I thought it looked more retro then run down, unlike Tulsa. At least LA Tech had a Press Box!

Yes, I was at Tulsa as well. But that is the second time tonight iv'e been told that Tulsa's stadium was worse. I guess it's kind of like 117th defense vs 117th offense!! ha ha!

If SMU ever "levels the playing field", I don't see how schools like La. Tech could even compete with Smu.

Dallas vs Ruston?

Smu Stadium vs. La Tech Stadium??

Post Grad Employment in Dallas vs. Ruston Employment???

Come on people, we are talking different worlds!

Not even close!

How can they attract players to come to Ruston?

Lets ease academic requirements and start destroying the La Tech's of the world.

Tulsa's stadium is definitely worse. La Tech has those classy wooden plaques shaped like footballs AND enclosed luxury boxes.

Tech recruits and gets a bunch of non qualifiers that LSU can't sign because they couldn't get into LSU. They actually have some real top talent there, but they aren't the brighest of the bunch...

I'm ready for some dim lightbulbs who can flat out play.

Seriously, what is it going to hurt if we get 10-15 kids that dont exactly meet "SMU" academic standards. You dont think Stanford, Georgetown, Northwestern, Virginia, Berkeley, UNC, and UT do not slide a few questionable star athletes through each year? Its not like that would be cheating and we're not MIT for Christ sake.
