SMU Receives Votes In FSN Preseason Top 25
June 23, 2010
DALLAS (SMU) - With the start of the 2010 season a little over two months away, the SMU football team is gaining the attention of numerous news outlets. As 2010 preseason magazines and website previews begin to surface, the 2009 Sheraton Hawaii Bowl Champion and Conference USA Western Division Co-Champion Mustangs are being mentioned prominently.
SMU Mustangs Kelvin Beachum, Jr., and Aldrick Robinson have been named to Dave Campbell's Texas Football's 2010 All-Texas College first-team offense, according to the publication's 41st-annual edition, which hit the newsstands last week.
Texas Football also included its FSN Preseason Top 25, with SMU among 12 teams just outside the Top 25, but receiving votes.
The SMU team also received a vote in the final USA TODAY Top-25 Coaches Poll of 2009. SMU, which finished the season at 8-5, entered the list following its 45-10 win over Nevada in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. The Mustangs had entered the Bowl Season as the biggest underdog in any Bowl game yet finished with the largest margin of victory in all Bowls played.
The Kickoff 2010 College Football Preview writes of SMU, "June Jones has SMU on the fast track to becoming a C-USA power... The main goal is to win C-USA and that's certainly within the realm of possibilities now... This is a team that nobody is going to want to face because they're capable of beating anyone on their schedule."
Tickets for the upcoming season are going fast. For more information, contact the SMU Ticket Sales Office at (214) SMU-GAME (768-4263).
