Notes from Thursday's optional workout

The SMU football team continued its optional conditioning workouts, with QB Kyle Padron throwing to WRs (and a couple of DBs) before gathering for running; today's version was held inside, as the players ran up and down three flights of stairs in the Loyd All-Sports Center.

A few notes from Thursday:

• While the receivers ran pass routes, redshirt freshman Chayse Joubert jogged on the side of the field as he recovers from a slightly sprained left ankle he suffered while running a deep pass route earlier in the week (which he did catch). Joubert has missed the last couple of days of workouts, but said he will be back on the field Friday to run with his teammates.

• Safety/special teamer Brett Haness is among the players who looks significantly stronger than he did a year ago. Haness, who said he dipped down to around 180 pounds last year, now weighs 190, and hopes to get close to 200 by the start of preseason workouts, at which point he fully expects to run off a few pounds in the August heat, hopefully playing this season between 190 and 195. He said he was asked to add a few pounds of muscle in part to play more physically on special teams.

Are many of the players in fraternities?
