If we beat Tech?

I hate to even ask at the risk of sending any of you pessimists out there into a tizzy, but........... what happens if we beat Texas Tech in Lubbock? Not by 3 or 1, but a convincing win. What does it do for the season? Next game let down or signal we're playing on a new level?

One game doesn't signal a new level of anything - remember beating TCU? Tech could potentially be in disarray with a new coach and system.

It could potentially be a season(s) changer though - the massive confidence boost would help greatly, and beating Tech on national TV would be great for recruiting.

All those big time players looking to play in a pass-happy offense will be watching to see what Tech's new offense will be. It's time to show off the Run 'n Shoot.

tech could also have a MUCH better D than we have ever faced...lest we forget who they hired.

I think a resounding victory against Tech would be an eye-opener on the national level. The big question is do we respond by wetting the bed against TCU or do we put up a good fight and maybe even win that game? I honestly believe the TCU game is one we can win (far better chance than winning at Tech), but I think we have a fighting chance and winning both games.

I really wish we could hush this kind of talk. The last time I heard "what if we beat Tech on national TV" was the ill-fated "all out" game.

IF there is a miracle in lubbock and we do beat them, it will be down played to first game, new coach, new system jitters.

Doesn't matter. Without trying to sound like a pessimist, I don't expect to beat either of those two teams, so a win against either potential top-25 (or 10) in-state non-conference opponent is a BIG boost.
I expect to beat WSU, hopeful to beat Navy. So if we were to go 3-1 in non-con play I would be ecstatic.

Oh God. . .the "all out" game. That sends a cold shiver down my spine.

If we beat Tech in Lubbock, we will get major national pub and it will probably be a huge recruting boost. It will also probably guarantee much bigger crowds at Ford the next couple of weeks against UAB and Wash. State. Not to mention front (sports) page DMN coverage. In other words, it would be awesome.

That being said, I've watched SMU football for far too many years to get excited about something that I know in my heart is a long-shot. I'm not saying we won't have a good team this year and have a successful season. . .I just feel that the Tech game is going to be tough. Not impossible. . .but tough.

that's going up. The people talking 12 points weren't oddsmakers. 12 points? Really? On the road in Lubbock which is probably worth 5 points. I doubt we'll cover at 17. Here's what Tech did in Lubbock last year:

28 points over OU
21 points over Kansas
54 points over Kansas St
45 points over Rice
25 points over NDSU

they screwed up against the Aggies but made up for in by beating Big 12 North Champs Nebraska by 21 in Lincoln.

I don't gamble and tire of those that do. The difference between winning and losing is 1 point and that's all that matters.

Al Czervik: What're we, waiting for these guys? Hey SSTALLION, where's your hat?

wannabe Judge STALLION: Do you mind, sir. I'm trying to tee off.

Al Czervik: I'll bet you a hundred bucks you slice it into the woods.

wannabe Judge STALLION: Gambling is illegal at Bushwood sir, and I never slice.

SMU covers 17 in Tech game

wannabe Judge STALLION: *Damn*.

Al Czervik: OK, you can owe me.

wannabe Judge STALLION: I owe you nothing.
