Statement from June Jones

Many have read this already, but here's is a statement from June Jones:

"As we prepare for fall practice, I’m very excited about the direction of the program. We have a talented group returning and a great group of newcomers joining the team. We snapped a 25-year bowl drought last season and our goal this year is a Conference USA title – one that I hope will be the first of many. As I stated when I received my contract extension in November, I’m looking forward to many more years and championship seasons on the Hilltop and I’m glad to be part of the ‘Mustang Nation.’” – June Jones

Cue his statements in Hawaii right before taking the SMU job.

Just curious. Why this statement now? Is it typical for this time of year?

I would assume it's being put out there to squelch rumors that he is upset and might skip town.

"I haven't talked to SMU. I'm not gonna talk to SMU.

Meanwhile, where's the statement from Turner addressing the rumors that he lied to everyone?

Thus far, JJ's done everything he said he was going to. At least one member of the JJ/SO/RJT triumvirate has not.

Turner believes this will simply go away. Based on how horrible decisions have been tolerated for 25 years, I am inclined to agree with him.

I don't disagree with you, although I hope your observation about such things being tolerated is incorrect. My last comment was tongue in cheek.

The "Circle" has quite an investment in JJ and SMU football. I would hope that Turner or whoever has had a few calls about this. Someone with stroke needs to address this with the powers that be.

there are two threads covering Turner, both threads have less than 20 replies each and multiple posts from several bloggers who are chatting with each other, and there are many more viewers following the threads. I think it is best to wait until Jones make a public statement and let him work behind the scenes, some of you are fanning the flames without actual knowledge of really happened and are acting on "gut reaction" to the DMN article. DMN wants "hits" to their site, they worded their article to get a visceral reaction from the SMU fan base and they did, it sells paper and hits on their website. SMU has an impressive Board of wealthy people, don't turn them off by going after Turner and lose their allegiance and donations. Jones isn't going anywhere!

And?

I think it is best to wait until Jones make a public statement and let him work behind the scenes, some of you are fanning the flames without actual knowledge of really happened and are acting on "gut reaction" to the DMN article.

Admissions turned down Jeremy Hall, that is a fact. He appears to have no criminal record and meets all academic requirements.

So SMU fans should not speak about this subject and simply let is disappear because you discourage public discourse and do not want to offend the wealthy? You believe the rich athletic boosters will end their contributions because a poster on ponyfans dislikes Turner? If you oppose conversation so much you can always seek the comfort of a cat. I, however, will now contemplate whether or not to start another thread in which to discuss the failings of Turner.

The quicker we can all come together and support this program the quicker great things will happen! Even many of the profs at UT are upset with the athletic focus although the football program is actually funelling bigtime dollars back into the academic side and Mac is the master of politics with getting more profs involved with the team and functions. If the academia knew how hard these young women and men athletes worked and the pressure they are under then I think they would be more supportive. If the coach wants to go elsewhere then good luck. Same for the Pres and athletic director. Once you coddle those huge coaching egos too much then you run the danger of the Leach factor and a public embarrassment at your institution of higher learning. June has been good but no coach is irreplaceable.
