CAN TURNER BE FIRED?

(Sorry if this already has been covered)
Can Turner be fired or is it an extremely rare to fire a College President over this kind of issue?
And if so...who can fire him?
Or do they just usually force college presidents to "retire"?
Are there mega-rich boosters that have the power to at least
start the ball rolling to getting Turner to retire? For example
could Gerald Ford/Carl Sewell/ect.. get Turner forced out?
Turner has done some good things, but we may need someone
else like an Orsini type to take us to the next level.....we can't be
having this stuff coming up every year.

A better question is:
Who will make the 2010 Ponyfans Cheerleading and Pom-Pom Squads-seems to be a lot of openings from last year's squad
NO he is NOT getting fired. Forget it. This ain't the same school run by Clements, Cox and Jock and J. R. Ewing-take a good look at the members of the Board of Trustees. You guys have lost perspective on this issue based on your deep love and hero worship of St. June. The Board will give Turner unqualified support. This ain't 1989, 1995, 2000 or 2005. Welcome to the debate about 20 years too late. The actual practical effect of the current limitations in athletic admission is not in any way comparable to our prior problems. The entire situation may suck and have been terribly mishandled but its not the end of the world and we can compete with all teams currently on our schedule. In fact, under June Jones SMU will continue to take more marginal academic questionmarks than just about any team on our schedule.

A more pertinent question would be when will Turner actually look to retire? He'll be here through the Centennial, bank on it. Maybe through the Bush Library opening its doors. Can't imagine he wants to run this place until he keels over though, he has been here 15 years already.

Stallion as long as "The Messiah Twins"
June & Orsini are here there should be
lots to cheer about at SMU. I know that
news must ruin your day, but I'm sure
you'll always be able to dig deep enough for
some SMU doom & gloom and "everybody else
is wonderful" to get your rocks off.

Stlhockeyguy do you think if Turner survives this incident...but badly bruised,
that like you say he may stay until the SMU President Bush Library..but will Turner
"chill" as he knows the curtain is closing and let June/Orsini be June/Orisin?

NO he is NOT getting fired. Forget it. . . .
Stallion has it right. A few other additions..
The Board of Trustees is made up of people who really don't care about football, etc. In their minds the "real prestige" going right now is the Bush library. As I see it, there are two main factions in at SMU -- the BL folks and the Circle of Champions each have big money and their own agenda. GT is a politician through and through and always seeks the middle ground.

Sounds like you are real close to the board members. If you are not, I find these types of declarative statements hilarious.
In their minds the "real prestige" is who has the best blvd spot.

Ok I'll play...
you could be right
i suppose even if RGT has his balls busted by this incident
he would probably rather stay after being castrated as opposed to leaving embarrassed

here you go with doom & gloom again about needing to fire Turner! I suppose next you will tell us how much better your favorite longhorn President is for football.

The schools academic reputation has improved under Turner. Our endowments have improved under Turner. Our AD and HC of football have finally improved under Turner. Two marginal kids can't get in (and not marginal kids can't get in as well) and all of a sudden the world has come to an end.
We got kids excited about this season. We have kids that have learn how to win. We have a proven coach that has turned teams around and kept them at the top. And we are whining about tow kids that couldn't get in DESPITE being athletes?
Turner goes nowhere unless he wants to leave. We have a great potential for really remarkable year starting in less than 2 months. I am getting excited about football. It is an exciting time to be an SMU fan.
