poster "maddawg" on that thread takes a stab at the possible location of the line in the sand:
Just a guess, but we know that Jones' standards aren't very high. Could it be that he recruited players based on what he had been told by SMU admins when he was hired, but now they don't like the trend they are seeing?

maddawg is right. Winning is a terrible trend for us to become accustomed to. Glad we are getting this taken care of before it was too late and we had to deal with where to keep the iron skillet, mayors cup, CUSA Champ, and bowl trophies. Crisis adverted!

You forgot to add Louisiana Tech to your list. There is a good reason we didn't go after these guys. Maybe academics is the reason.

sounds like they have their own they didnt want them anyway committee, making retrospective decisions
