I'm more upset about....

I am more upset about LeRebus and Wilkerson, two offensive starters. All the fuss about incoming freshmen is over played when you think about their ability to stay with the team. Granted Jackson was treated poorly because of late notification but in fairness his final transcript was not recieved until mid June. We have a good group of incoming freshmen and prospects for 2011 are bright so let us focus on what we have and make every effort to keep them in school. By the way there are numerous incoming freshmen signees that are rejected in colleges across the land. This is not new to college football.

Stop trying to cloud the issue. This isn't about them being rejected. This is about why and when they were rejected. This is about the clear confusion and conflict between the athletic department and the administration about exactly what kinds of athletes can be admitted and possibly other issues.

No doubt. Losing LeRibieus and Wilkerson is BIG.

LeRibeus will be back — he'll be in school this fall.
Hopefully Wilkerson is back in January, too.

Losing LeRibeus is a big deal. If memory serves, he was named 2nd team All-Texas, which would (arguably) make him the 3rd or 4th best player on the whole friggin' team.

Not to downplay the loss of Wilkerson, because he's one of our top players too.

But if what I've heard is true -- that LeRibeus was suspended not because of grades but because he didn't take the classes he needed –– that's also the fault of the administration who supposedly advises our players about such things.

I don't think anything can be done about it because, if I recall correctly, NCAA mandates a certain amount of progress towards a degree to be eligible to play, but if true, this is another glaring breakdown Athletic Department / University Administration support system that should be in place to insure this kind of stuff doesn't happen.

I keep thinking about that adage that goes something like: For want of a nail, the shoe was lost. For want of a shoe, the horse was lost... then soldier, battle, war, country... All lost because of a nail.

After June appeared in Chicago last week, I thought I read from someone here that he expressed concern about academic support for the FB players, but he felt like the issue was being addressed. Did I get that right? If so, hopefully we can avoid these kind of academic failures in the future (to the extent possible).

He didn't address that in Chicago, but someone said that they are getting more support this fall...

He stated that the indoor facility was coming along...

I think JJ was quoted by another poster, something along those lines, when he was at the Shreveport event. He will be in Tyler a week from tomorrow (7-23) and hopefully we will be enlightened.
