So now a question about the most exciting aspect of Pony football right now, which is...SMU basketball! Seriously, is the band gonna be down here at S. Padre on the 22nd?

I think the only away games the band goes to for basketball are the conference, and NCAA tournaments.

I wish we could, but as was mentioned, they only give us trips to the conference and NCAA tournaments. In years past, numerous mustang bandsmen have gone, but I'm not too sure about this year.

I wish I could go.

So does the band not go to TCU when we have played there in years past? What about Baylor this year?

Well, usually on some of the Big games, a lot of band students will GO, we just aren't allowed to play. It has to do with unwritten band etiquette and also the fact that TWO bands in a basketball arena would be
a) distracting for BOTH teams
b) INFINITLY loud.

Sorry, folks, but that's just our reality

I'm pretty sure it is an NCAA rule about having bands at away games. I thought they were only allowed at tournament games, and that is why we never go to any of them. I'm about 80% sure on that one.

Since when did we do much with band ettiqute? lol. If we followed that we would be friendly to other bands and bring them drinks after halftime like everyone does to us...LOL

I think that is bull. I have gone to a number of Stanford vs Cal games, which I consider as heated a rivalry as any, and both bands are always present. It is fun to watch/listen to the battle going on not just on the court, but in the stands as each band tries to play louder than the other.

I say screw being polite!!! Bring your trumpets, drums, hamonicas, pianos, whatever down to the Baylor game and play their band right out of their own arena...

WOAH KILLER!!!
It probably has more to it than just courtesy. We'll see what we can do.
If you want to DO something aout it, write to the Athletic Departmen (I think) or send donations to the Mustang Band Hall Care Of Spaz

So if the band went to a game with group tickets (purcahsed) and just happened to bring your instruments, are you saying you couldn't play. In fact it would be funnier if somehow the band got tickets thorughout the arena and in unison decided to play together. Can you imagine hearing peruna come from nowhere and everywhere at the same time? THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!!! :w00t:

Good idea in theory, but I think someone waltzing up to Will Call with a TUBA or BASS DRUM might look suspicious...

Don't mind me! Just here to watch the game!

That would be freaking hilarious. Hell I'd march as an alum just to see that happen.
