The article claims that because SMU received a certain penalty, it should maintain higher standards. That history must forever dictate SMU's actions. Is that not exactly what SMU is trying to avoid? SMU is attempting to move beyond the DP, and to do so by winning. This article wants us to live in the shadow of the DP forever as a constant reminder, the athletic equivalent of a Holocaust museum.
A horrible conclusion. A horrible article.

Some disconcerting things in that article alluded to previously but not specifically addressed as it is here. "If they want to go 1-10 every year fine but they can do it without us."

This guy's an idiot.
SMU didn't go 1-11 every year since the DP. (6-6 two short years before Jones' arrival; only seven 1-win or worse seasons since '89.) Nor did Jones' arrival "change all that." (1-11 his first year)
This type is crap is written about us because we're forever stigmatized by the NCAA's decision to never administer the penalty again.

Since all of the 2009 Cheerleaders and Pom Pom Squad have quit you may well win the Cheerleader of the Day Pageant with this comment and the inclusion of the word "only":
"only seven 1-win or worse seasons since '89"
