Dr. Turner and replies from admissions email

Has anyone received a reply for Dr. Turner or one of his staff?
The reason I ask is that this afternoon I did receive an email in response to one I sent.

Both the sent and the reply desired balance in admissions and athletics.

I got one probably around the same time you did. It was similar to the others posted.

My response went a little something like this....

Dear davidpaul123:

Thank you for your recent email. It is always good to receive thoughtful letters from recent graduates.

If prospective student athletes are right on the margin of being eligible/admissible, spring semester grades is absolutely crucial. For in-state students, these are received at the end of May, but for out-of-state students it may be the end of the second week in June. Therefore, their review on June 23rd was very responsive to the time demands.

We clearly need to review our procedures for students whose eligibility/admissibility cannot be determined until after the end of the spring semester, which is often in early June. Accordingly, I am creating a joint committee of the Athletic Department, the Provost’s Office, and others to review these issues and make recommendations by the end of the summer.

Best wishes,

Can't understand why, but Turner addressed my response to "Dear Beavis & Butt-head"

ps: There is a God! They are coming back!

Dear Mr. Watkins:

It is always good to have the interest and support of people who are not graduates of SMU. Therefore, I appreciate your “voice.”

The Faculty Admissions Committee acted on their admissibility within four days of receiving the completed files of the two students. If a student has not yet met NCAA minimum or SMU standards, their final grades in the spring semester are often determinative.  For Texas students that means the end of May, but for out-of-state students it is usually the second week in June. Obviously, students for whom the spring semester is not so crucial are able to learn of the admission decision at a much earlier date.
