One thing that would help is for CUSA teams to start winning more and more of their games with BCS opponents. That will give the conference more cred than having a team go undefeated. We need to start winning more than 50% of our BCS games. I'd rather see a team go with one conference loss, but beat two BCS teams.

How about beat 3 BCS teams? Houston did that a year ago.

what about trying to sched the weak BCS teams, like WSU, Duke, Iowa St, Northwestern, Vandy, Baylor...

that's tough b/c they don't want to play to potential losses w/ their non-conf games b/c that is when they become bowl eligible by playing down teams so they can get some W's and hope for 2 conf wins to get to six.

So the theory being that with 3 nonconference games, teams won't play a typical Rice nonconference schedule? Let's see a team come close to undefeated in conference before we do this.
If it is me, what really needs to happen is an alliance between the non-BCS conferences to schedule eachother nonconfernce. Right now the nonconfernce schedules are all BCS schools and I-AA with few non-BCS conference teams playing eachother nonconference. TCU-SMU is obviously an exception.
A two or four year Conference USA/MWC or Conference USA/WAC or Conference USA/MAC partnership makes more sense to me if the goal is to increase the likelihood of a BCS buster. Not that the games would be that atttractive, but they could lead to better non-conference slates.

our champion already plays 9 conference games. We need to keep scheduling BCS programs and start beating them for conference credibility. We've had opportunities to beat SEC teams in the Liberty Bowl and come up short against their mid level programs. We've still got a LONG ways to go.

Sir, ALWAYS put SMU before TCU. (ex. SMU-TCU)
