E. Sanders First Open Practice - " I'm no Dez Bryant..."

Went to Latrobe, PA over the weekend to catch E.S.'s first NFL open practice. Even though it was a little weird seeing him in the black and gold - the #88 did look good on him.

Image

I watched him and Flozel(Slozel) Adams the whole practice and E's was flawless(minus jumping offsides during an individual drill). Was highlighted by a 35 yard post connection w/ Leftwich on 3rd and 9(his 2nd rep of team) that received a loud roar from the 3,500+ Steeler fans in attendance. He made numerous plays during team and started to create a lil buzz in the bleachers. However, it was after the last whistle that he really became a fan favorite of the day.

After E made an impressive catch and run on an out-route to conclude practice, Hines Ward approached E and threw his shoulder pads to him( ofcourse E caught them). E then proceeded to the bleachers to meet the new fans.

Image

After signing autographs for about 10-15 minutes, he grabbed Ward's pads and headed to the locker room.

Image

I yelled out to him -

" Yea, E carry those pads youngin"

He then turned and responded.

" Ofcourse, I'm no Dez Bryant." Receiving cheers from the whole bleachers.

E had an amazing first practice from what I could tell. Mike Wallace's practice ended early due to stomach problems so E got to run with the 1st team and really opened some eyes. By the end of practice there was a strong buzz about him and his SMU past. Keep it up E!!!!!

He seems so little to me for an NFL receiver type. Will see, perhaps he will be like LT and prove everyone wrong.

honestly - other than the big tight end type receivers, ES was one of the bigger receivers. Out of the 10 out there he was top 3 in height and no more than 10 lbs. less weight wise. I had the same thoughts about his size but it surprised me to see how he stacked up to the others.

But when he stood next to J. Harrison and Big Ben - he really did look like a little boy haha

What Tomlin liked included an efficient passing attack during 11-on-11 red-zone drills. Rookie wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders was a popular target. His highlight play featured a leaping, twisting touchdown catch on a bullet pass from Byron Leftwich.
