Who gave us the vote? I'm guessing someone on our schedule. I wish all the coaches on our schedule with votes gave us a nod, then we'd be cooking.
So, my guess is Fatterson. He has the most to be gained by a strong SOS.

Didn't we get a couple of votes in 1997 during the season?

I remember that too, Dooby.
Here's what the DMN's Chuck Carlton had to say about this poll:
"And could somebody explain how Oklahoma State, which returns just 10 starters and seems to be in rebuilding mode, somehow got more points in the voting (11) than Texas Tech (five), Texas A&M (three) and SMU (one) combined?"

We also got a vote on the final Coaches poll of last season after the Hawaii bowl. So that is really where the string was broken, not this poll.
We did indeed get a couple of AP votes after we upset Arkansas and started the season 2-0...course all went down the crapper after that.

Was that the game the Hog QB fumbled the sneak on the goal line to blow it?

Yes Barry(?) Lundy's fumble at the 1 yard line.
Also - Ramon Flanigan broke his hip on the firest series of the game - explains a little bit about why the season went in the crapper after this game.

I think you're getting your Arkansas games confused. We lost the game that Ramon went down in. I remember because I got into a bit of a "scuffle" with a drunk Arkansas fan who taunted my group the whole game about them taking Ramon out. Those pig hat people are obnoxious.

Yep, this is right, the year Ramon went down, it was the first play of the first game and SMU did lose to Arkansas, although it was a pretty close game I believe.
It was the next year I think where we started out 2-0 and beat Arkansas on that fumble at the very end and got some AP votes.

I am putting my streak of being wrong on the line, but I say we won the game when Ramon dislocated his hip. A glorius night which led to a 1-11 season.

Top 25 in everything! I'm getting excited!
