PonyFans.com visited with sophomore defensive end Margus Hunt Saturday after the first practice of the 2010 campaign. Margus, who is visibly bigger (if you can believe it) discusses his summer conditioning and achieving a personal best in the discus.
P.S. As has been rumored, Margus did briefly eclipse 290 lbs., but is now back down into the 280s.

This one needs to be posted under the announcements section so that it can stay up IMO. As tall as he is he could easily hold 290 to 300 pounds. That would be NFL size for a DE.

Good interview and BTW he's not much below the 290's...he says he's at 287...I look forward to watching him playing real 'Football' this year with new found football instincts blossoming...

MH I know money is not everything and it may not be your dream. The discus toss is not going to give you a 20 mill signing bonus. And those guys watch everything you do and say. Fake it if you have too. Focus on football be a top 10 draft choice, play 4 years and then go back to the disk. You will have a lot more cash to buy the really shiney ones.

Some times kids need direction. And that little tell about the PS3, he's telling you what he did for the most part.

These interviews are FANTASTIC. When Margus gets this game figured out, he's going to be scary-good.

He’s like the rest of us he needs to be encouraged. He does not fully understand the game of football. Marcus has all of the developing tools to drive to the top if he so chooses to do so with a little luck..

Keep in mind that Track & Field athletes might not be as glamorous to us.. But in Europe these guys are paid very well. Not as much as American football players or European soccer players.. but they make very good money over there. Michael Johnson practically lived over there and ran in their seasonal circuit.. and made millions. Not to mention the individual endorsements Margus would get from big-named brands. He could be the face of Nike or Adidas for Estonia.
Just to be fair.. he's was the junior world champion in discus and shot, versus a guy just picking up the sport of football on the side. No doubt he's talented and with work he could be in the NFL.. but it's not his first choice.

1. is there a part 2 of this interview coming soon? (just asking because the thread title kind of suggests it).
2. it's nice to see that perhaps playing football has helped his discus-throwing. at least, I'm reading into his comment that he significantly surpassed his record distance this year after being stuck for 3+ years.

Margus is a hard working young man that can do what ever he sets his mind to! He has the talent to play football and pick up the disc for international competition. Hopefully he will be encouraged to get his degree before he turns pro! We are excited about watching him this year!!
